According to reports, The controversy started when ED decided to question Bonny Sengupta as he was under the scanner for this car. Several media reports claimed that TMC leader Kuntal Ghosh had made a payment to an automobile agency so that Bonny could buy this luxury car. It is believed that Kuntal Ghosh had allegedly paid Rs 30-45 lakh for the car. However, while questioned by ED, Bonny insisted that the money was transferred as payment for more than 20 events he appeared in for Kuntal Ghosh and he also sold the said car to a person back in December 2021. Later addressing the media, Bonny said that Kuntal Ghosh, who has a production house, approached him in 2017 for a film but it didn’t happen. So he had asked Kuntal to pay for his car through a legitimate bank transaction, and he did quite a few shows for him till 2021 to make up for that money.
