Last week saw the Pound to Rupee exchange rate (GBPINR) test one-month highs around 103.6849. Sterling secured against the Euro (EUR) and US Dollar (USD). Foreign exchange strategists at ICICI Securities note key technical levels for GBP/INR, EUR/INR, and USD/INR in their recent brief to clients. "The Euro marked its best day in the last two weeks and jumped more than 0.75% amid weakness in dollar," says Raj Deepak Singh, Derivatives Research Head at ICICI Securities. While lower revised GDP figures have somewhat tempered these gains, the expectations of a rate hike in the upcoming ECB meeting bolster the Euro's position. "Further, expectation of a 25 bps hike in the next ECB meeting has supported the pair to go past 1.0780," Singh adds. The strategist also envisages a supportive role for the 20-day EMA, which could hold the Euro around 1.0730 and potentially push it towards 1.0820. When it comes to the Euro to Rupee (EUR/INR) exchange rate, the analyst predicted a bounce back towards 89.30 if it holds near the 88.50 support level. Meanwhile, the British Pound (GBP) also made significant gains, rising almost 1% due to the softer US Dollar (USD) and growing prospects of a rate hike in the next policy session. "The forecast of higher inflation in Britain by OECD has fuelled the probability of more rate hikes in the region," Singh remarks.
