The Evil Dead

Perhaps no horror film in history has a bigger cult following than The Evil Dead, and rightfully so. Director Sam Raimi and the small cast made one of the most intense and original films to date. Sometimes it's hard for myself to go back and watch horror films from decades ago, especially those with a smaller budget. Most of the time the lack of sufficient funds to edit horror pictures make the end product a lot less re-watchable. Report missing or broken trailer Just like ‘The Evil Dead’, this film focuses on a group of five, three girls and two boys who go to a remote cabin in the woods. Unlike the first film which had the five go to the cabin recreationally, the reason cited in the remake is to help Mia, the main protagonist, with her drug addiction. This is great for several reasons. Some of the best horrors have been remakes - ‘ Having the main character in this remake have a severe drug addiction that leaves her feeling more isolated as the horrors she sees are diluted down by her friends to be nothing more than withdrawal symptoms, was ingenious. It amps up the tension tremendously to being on an almost equal footing to the intense direction of Sam Raimi’s original and that is no small feat. The acting for the most part, particularly from Jane Levy who plays the main character Mia, is brilliant and helps elevate the film above some of the few cliche scares and dialogue littered throughout.
