It’s their dream subject, which at one point of time was planned as a feature film. The story chronicles the Journey of how greed to make money takes Sunny aka. Artist (Shahid Kapoor) and Firoz (Bhuvan Arora) in the dark world of counterfeit money i.e. fake currency. The conflict intensifies and takes a spin with the entry of Michael (Vijay Sethupathi), an honest taskforce officer and Mansoor Dalal (Kay Kay Menon), a wanted gangster in their lives. What works? Farzi explores a premise that’s fresh for the Indian audience. Raj and DK treat their premise keeping the commercial trappings of filmmaking intact – the series grips up into the world in the first two episodes, and keeps you on the edge of your seat through the last three. Their biggest victory as a story teller lies in the fact that you are relating to the journey of two protagonists – Sunny and Firoz – and there are times when you don’t want the characters to take a certain decision, as deep within they are the middle class families, trying t...

Farzi Review: Shahid Kapoor And Vijay Sethupathi Fake 'Money Heist' Is Worth Bingeing

When the stamp of Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, better known as Raj and DK is printed on a project, you can’t help but set expectations from it. If the format is a series, it makes the hype all the more high, thanks to The Family Man. Farzi does carry the burden of expectations of the hit series but after eight hours of binge-watching, I realised that while The Family Man has its own benchmark, Farzi tries and almost successfully leaves a mark of its own. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, Farzi is about an artist who has found his inspiration in the costliest entity in the world — Money. But his artwork is being followed by many, including Michael Vedanayagam, a cop. No prize for guessing that Shahid plays the role of the artist aka Sunny whereas Vijay plays the cop. Their cat-and-mouse chase tale includes Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna, Amol Palekar, and Bhuvan Arora. Farzi starts off on a fun note, with Sunny going all out Professor on Money Heist. While the Spanish heist mastermind goes into a bank and prints money, Sunny turns his grandfather’s printing press into an in-house fake RBI printing press, generating counterfeit notes. In his trial and error stage, Sunny and his sidekick Firoz (Bhuvan Arora) go through the juggad phase, the getting caught phase, and whatnot before they manage to get their first counterfeit note into the market successfully. At first, it starts off as Sunny’s last resort to save the printing press but eventually, greed ta...

'Farzi' review: Twitter approves of the stellar cast, calls it a masterpiece

Going Money Heist in desi style, but with so much power and conviction, that the trailer had us hooked right from the moment it was dropped. That’s Raj and DK’s newest web series Farzi. And here’s the Farzi review by Twitterati. A medley of talent, Farzi’s stellar cast is definitely one of the many USPs of the thriller web-series. Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupati in a cat and mouse chase is content straight out of a cinephile’s dream. Add the stamp of Raj and DK of The Family Man fame on top of that, and it’s a recipe for a blockbuster. We know it, and Twitteratis know it too. Which is why, as the show released on About Farzi This is the story of a grossly underpaid and unappreciated artist, Sunny, played by Shahid Kapoor, who dreams of making it big. And by making it big, we mean, earn a lot of money. In fact, the Mujhe itna paisa kamana hai, ki mujhe uski izzat hi nahi karne pade.” If it instantly gives you the Shahid Kapoor from Udta Punjab vibe, let’s say you’re not entirely wrong. Sunny’s artistic talent makes him realise his talent for counterfeiting and printing fake notes to such a degree of perfection that leaves everyone stunned. Enters Farzi look like an instant hit. There’s also Kay Kay Menon in one of the lead roles, so you can well expect your weekend binge plan to have been taken care of. Farzi review: What Twitter has to say “Superb”, “amazing action thriller”, and “superb cast” look like the unanimous verdict across Twitter. But let’s see what the rest of...

Farzi Review

Farzi, starring Farzi has a bit of that, but like I said, with the long format and all.. it doesn’t quite fit in every frame. No webseries ever does. It’s all about making things a bit interesting, and who knows that better than Raj& DK, who have delivered one of the most popular thriller series, The Family Man? The duo does it again, but this time it’s Shahid Kapoor, who shines like a pro artist. Farzi is about Sunny ( Shahid Kapoor), an orphan boy abandoned by his father, who is now living with his grandfather ( Sunny is always behind making quick money, even if it’s the wrong way. Sunny and his childhood buddy, Firoz ( Michael ( Vijay Sethupathi), a cop, and Megha ( Raashii Khanna), an RBI officer, team up to find the artist behind the supernote that is not even traceable for their advanced machine. Then there is Mansoor ( Kay Kay Menon), a big-time smuggler of counterfeit notes and illegal businesses, who enters the picture to make this interesting. Who will win this cat-and-mouse game? Raj& DK have some surprising answers for you in Farzi. Farzi is a con-drama with an anti-conning script. There are several moments that are too smart, while others still follow run-of-the-mill segments. Sunny‘s character has no flaws until the romantic angle appears. But why? Why are we still going on with old-school romances that have been used again and again over the years? Don’t the writers feel bored? Then there’s a family issue with the cop, again, a corny thing. Almost every cop ...

Farzi Review: Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi's series is an intriguing crime drama with solid performances

By Shweta Keshri: Counterfeiting is the second-oldest profession in the world and Raj and DK's Farzi is all about that. The Amazon Prime Video original series might be about farzi notes, but the concept is totally original. The makers of The Family Man, yet again, get its audience hooked on to an intriguing plot with solid performances, fun one-liners and thrilling sequences. Farzi is all about the artist and his art. Disappointed with the divide between rich and poor, and after failing to keep his nanu's (Amol Palekar) revolutionary journal, Kranti Patrika, in operation, Sunny (Shahid Kapoor) decides to take matters into his own hands and starts creating counterfeit money with the assistance of his friend Firoz (Bhuvon Arora). They create fake currency that is so close to the original that it is nearly impossible to tell the difference. Meanwhile, Michael (Vijay Sethupathi), a cop, and Mansoor Dalal (Kay Kay Menon), a kingpin of counterfeits, are involved in their own cat and mouse game. Soon Sunny's art meets its connoisseur in Mansoor, who quickly gets him involved in his cartel, making him complicit in a major worldwide crime. In no time, Sunny's needs become his wants and it's no longer about his nanu or his press, but it's just his greed that gets neck-deep involved in counterfeiting. Raj and DK's characters are never black or white. Be it Sunny, who is the anti-hero of the series, or Michael, who is unlike any cop you might have come across on screen. Neither of the...

‘Farzi’ Review: Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi Spar in a Sly, Gripping Thriller

The greats of our time, ABBA, had once said, “Money, money, money; must be funny in the rich man's world.” In a similar vein, in Farzi, Sunny (Shahid Kapoor) and his best friend Firoz (Bhuvan Arora) try to make a living in a world that proves how foolish the saying “Money can’t buy happiness” is. Sunny and Firoz live under the watchful eye of the former’s naanu played with a serene brilliance by Amol Palekar. He is their caretaker, educator, and moral compass. Sunny is a skilled artist capable of churning out copies of artworks by the likes of Van Gogh and Firoz is a maestro at printing. Armed with these skill sets, they set out to make fake currency. At first, it’s their version of kranti – a rebellion against a system that discards those not made of money – but soon they get dragged into the murky world of crime. The show never claims that Sunny’s dissent is moral or correct, it just is. Shahid Kapoor shows incredible restraint as Sunny; his slow descent into crime and corruption captured beautifully by the actor. Matching step with him is Arora who plays an irreplaceable character in Sunny’s life and in the show. Arora’s comic timing and quick wit are on full display in Farzi. Sunny and Firoz and their small-time operation of making sandwich notes in a printing press gets dragged into a cross-border counterfeit operation run by a wolf in wolf’s clothing, Mansoor Dalal (Kay Kay Menon). Mansoor is stuck in a cat-and-mouse chase with Michael and a snake-and-mongoose equiva...
