Chennai: The Income Tax (IT) Department officials are conducting raids on several properties of popular real estate company G Square in Tamil Nadu. The searches were also carried out at many locations associated with the group in Karnataka and Telangana. The searches began around 7 am on Monday in offices of G Square Relators Private Limited in Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Karnataka’s Hosur, Bengaluru, Mysore and Bellary and Telangana. Raids were also being carried out at the residence of the company owner Ramajayam alias Bala, reports said. At least 30 locations are being raided by IT officials. The raids are related to alleged tax evasion, News18 quoted sources as saying. A report by The News Minute said that raids are also being conducted at G Square properties in Karnataka. IT raids at G Square premises The searches at G Square come a week after Tamil Nadu BJP state president K Annamalai released “DMK Files” which detailed the properties owned by DMK family members, ministers, MLAs and MPs. The BJP leader alleged that because of its alleged links with Tamil Nadu’s ruling party (DMK), the revenue of G Square increased exponentially since 2019. CHENNAI: Officials said the searches were based on gathered information of income tax evasion by the real estate firm. Around I-T personnel launched the searches simultaneously on Monday morning. The searched premises included 50 properties in and around Chennai alone. Income tax officials said a property in Delhi was searched.

With just four more days to go for polling day in Tamil Nadu, Income Tax sleuths began raids at premises belonging to Senthamarai Sabareesan, daughter of DMK Chief M K Stalin, on Friday. The searches are being conducted in four places connected to Sabareesan, Stalin's son -in-law who is said to be DMK's campaign strategist in the upcoming election. According to sources, four places in Chennai, connected to Sabareesan's friend Karthik Mohan and son of DMK's Annanagar candidate Mohan, his businessman friend Bala, known as G Square Bala are being searched by the Income Tax department. G Square Realtors Private Limited is a Private company incorporated on October 12, 2012 and was earlier raided by the Income Tax department in 2019. It is classified as non-govt company and registered at Registrar of Companies, Chennai. It may be recalled that IT searches were conducted few weeks ago in places close to AIADMK ministers Dr C. Vijayabhaskar and M.C. Sampath.

Chennai-based real estate firm G Square Realtors Private Limited, whose offices were raided by Income Tax authorities on Monday, stated that it was not owned or controlled by family members of DMK leaders contrary to the claims of state BJP chief K Annamalai. The raids began around 7 am and are currently being carried out at over 50 locations in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana. “G Square is not owned or controlled by DMK family members. The company has been doing business for many years before the DMK government came to power. The allegation made by Annamalai about the value of their company’s assets is completely false and baseless,” the company said in a statement. “The construction projects of G Square and its partners are depicted with false values. The remarks made in the ‘DMK files’about G Square is patently false, misleading and grossly defamatory. The company’s assets and liabilities are matters of public record that are available with the Registrar of Companies and would disprove the claim that the company has a revenue holding of Rs 38,827.70 crore,” it added. The IT raids on G Square offices at over 50 locations come a week after Annamalai alleged that the firm is owned by the ‘first family of DMK’ including Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi and his son-in-law Sabareesan.
