Like • The numerous changes to the body really add up • Closing the Fold 4 is incredibly satisfying • The main and telephoto cameras are good • Multitasking has never been easier • The wider body makes using it closed less awkward Don't like • The price is too high • It's still a bit chunky • Lack of S Pen storage or a magnetic side to attach it • There are still lots of apps that don't support the Fold 4's screen ratio The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the fourth version of Samsung's phone that folds open into a small tablet. It costs $1,800. Yes, that's a lot of gravy. Most of that price comes from the Z Fold 4's 7.6-inch foldable display. That same folding screen has a high refresh rate for playing video games, a clever camera hidden behind it for video calls and S Pen support for writing and drawing. Despite not being a huge fan of previous Galaxy Fold phones, I cannot get enough of the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Remember the first time you had a crush? The Honor Magic Vs actually feels heavier than the Z Fold 4 because it’s physically bulkier when, in reality, it’s basically the same in terms of weight. There’s something really pleasing about the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The phone’s girth may make it look more standard, but it doesn’t enhance the ergonomics. Samsung can retain the tall, thin look with the Z Fold 5, but if it can shave a hair off the thickness, it’ll change people’s perception of the phone’s size — not just when holding it, but visually too. There’s something really pleasing about the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s width. It’s comfortable to casually grip in a way the wider Magic Vs isn’t, and the flat sides make it really easy to open and close. These aspects don’t need to dramatically change — they just need to be refined so they get even better. It’s a similar story with the hinge, which has a fantastic motion and just the right level of dampening. What it needs is further refinement to the durability and perhaps a slight tweak to its stiffness when opening, but that’s all.
