Raipur: The Chhattisgarh forest department has succeeded in reuniting a one-month-old female leopard cub with its mother nearly 15 hours after their separation at Ganiyari beat of Fingeshwar forest range in Gariyaband district on Tuesday. The forest staff cordoned off the area to ensure the cub’s safety while keeping watch from a certain distance so that the mother would feel safe and come back to the cub, said Gariyaband divisional forest officer Manivasagan S. The DFO shared the pugmarks of the mother leopard with TOI and said, “The pugmarks are proof of the reuniting of the mother leopard and the cub. Our 15-member team did not move even an inch from their place after the cub was spotted in the Ganiyari beat on Tuesday morning and provided it a safe environment apart from feeding her milk through our veterinary experts from Jungle Safari, Naya Raipur.” The forest department carried out a combing operation in and around the forest to confirm further that the cub was taken by her mother. We stopped the MGNREGA work at the canal site for the combing operation, and the work will resume on Thursday, said the DFO. The leopard cub got separated from her mother in the Fingeshwar forest range of Rajim block, about 40 km from Raipur.
