What happened to Gaten Matarazzo’s teeth? Star had four

Gaten Matarazzo plays fan favourite Dustin Henderson in the hit series Stranger Things. The highly anticipated wait for season 4 has been agonising; the show last aired almost three years ago in July 2019. In the meantime, fans have been wondering what happened to Gaten Matarazzo’s teeth, and we have a health update. In the first episode of Stranger Things, we hear people bully Dustin for his toothless smile but his comeback was “I told you a million times, my teeth are coming in. It’s called cleidocranial dysplasia.” As the series goes on Dustin continues to open up about his condition, but does Matarazzo have the same condition in real life? • What happened to Gaten Matarazzo’s teeth? Gaten suffers from cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) which is a genetic disorder that impacts one in every million people. The condition affects the growth of all bones, but for Gaten it is mainly his teeth and collarbones. Someone with CDD is not born with a set of baby teeth that fall out and adult teeth that grow. This means that Matarazzo has had three tooth extraction surgeries and has to wear dentures and an appliance, to manually pull his teeth down. Matarazzo’s real condition was included in Stranger Things and this was discussed before the start of filming. “Once I got the part, they said they’re gonna incorporate that and use it in a realistic way. They asked me if it was okay if the kids in the show had bullied me because of it. I said it’s totally cool. It’s realistic,” Gaten reveal...

'Stranger Things' Star Gaten Matarazzo Shares What Life Is Like With His Rare Bone Disorder

Only the most hardcore Stranger Things fans among us might remember the scene in the very first episode where Dustin defends himself against school bullies making fun of his toothless lisp. “I told you a million times, my teeth are coming in!” says Dustin, played by Gaten Matarazzo. “It’s called cleidocranial dysplasia.” Unlike Demogorgons and the Upside Down, “It’s one of the biggest reasons why I [hadn’t] been getting roles, because of my lisp, and the teeth situation, and my height,” Matarazzo The Doctors this week. The actor’s condition, also called cleidocranial dysostosis, is a genetic disorder affecting the development of the bones and teeth. One common sign, an absent or undeveloped collarbone, actually caught the Stranger Things creators’ eye while Matarazzo was stretching out before his audition. Because he has no collarbones, Matarazzo can actually make his shoulders touch in the front. The most important thing to understand about CCD, according to Dr. Staffenberg, is that because it can affect such a wide variety of places on the body—“from the very top of the head all the way down literally to the bottom of the feet”—it truly requires a multidisciplinary team of experts to tackle. “Very rarely is it a single visit with a doctor that will determine one treatment, and then [the patient] is finished,” he says. That team of specialists may include a craniofacial surgeon, like Dr. Staffenberg, as well as as doctors and surgeons from orthodontics and orthopedics, pl...

Is it possible? Is it true? Have the I'm talking to Gaten Matarazzo, who, in the primordial era of July 2016, was once the babiest of all the baby Stranger Things kids—playing Dustin, the goofy one with the trucker hat—and he's telling me about moving into a new place with his girlfriend. Matarazzo is wearing a technicolored cardigan that's way cooler than anything in my closet, and probably yours, too. He still has that sweet-hearted grin, the one made of butterflies and confetti, and now, the slightest tinge of aged wisdom, the kind that only comes when you've lived a certain amount of life, and been through a certain amount of things. Sure, Matarazzo played Switch Sports until 1 a.m. the night before we met (he's a tennis guy!), but he's highly concerned about bathroom appliances, too.
