‘A story should have some complexity,’ says Geetanjali Kulkarni on Unpaused: Naya Safar

. Excerpts: Unpaused is a prime example of how cinema can reflect reality constructively. But do you as a rule approve of making films on topical subjects? More than topical, the important part for me is that the story has to be layered. It should have some complexity and shouldn't be black and white. That way it becomes interesting for the viewers as well as the actors. So that's more important for me. Even if it is topical, it has to have that kind of research that makes it real, authentic, and complex. Succession finale review: One of the best shows about sibling warfare Abhishek Agarwal: 'I want to build India's equivalent of LVMH' In the War Room segment of Unpaused: Naya Safar, you play a school teacher moonlighting as a Covid frontline worker. How close did you feel to the character? I have seen a lot of teachers and government servants doing duties other than their regular work. We always feel that the government officials don't do their duties, they are more professional but many times, these teachers go out of their way and make efforts for children, especially in villages. So I have a lot of faith in the government system because the system is made by people like Sangeeta Waghmare. I can completely relate to such teachers because I have seen such examples in my life where they go out of their ways and volunteer. What has it been like for you during these past two years? What are your lessons learned from the lockdown experience? The past two years have taught th...

‘Court’ actress Geetanjali Kulkarni: I appreciate experimental films

’s critically acclaimed Marathi film has been selected as India’s official entry to the Best Foreign Language category of the 2016 Academy Awards. As soon as the announcement was made by the 17-member Oscar jury headed by Amol Palekar, there was excitement all over. To many, this came as a bit of surprise, as Court managed to beat big films like PK, Mary Kom, Haider and Baahubali in the race of In a voice filled with pride, she tells us, “ Court is a true Indian film. The reason we made it in Marathi is that because it is based in Mumbai. Lower courts in the city use local languages only. Diversity is the essence of this film.” READ: Ask her if she were a part of the Oscar jury and Court were not one of the contenders, which film she would have chosen, she says laughingly, “That’s a very tough question to answer. But yes, given the school of thought I come from, I would have definitely not chosen a film which is repetitive in any sense. I appreciate films which are experimental in nature, the ones which have fresh content and have been presented in a new way.” For latest Entertainment updates, follow us on Twitter >>> For the latest in Entertainment news, like us on Facebook >>> WATCH: Court (2015) - International Trailer [HD]
