AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy eyes win in all teachers & graduates seats in MLC polls

VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wants to win all seats at the crucial MLC elections. Jagan asked party leaders that winning the two teachers' and three graduates' MLC seats is as important as a victory in the 2024 general elections. All political parties have entered the contest for the first time. YSR Congress and Poll panel to issue notification tomorrow The poll panel will issue the notification on February 16. The election for the two teacher MLC seats and three graduate MLC seats will be held on March 13 to fill the vacancies with the retirement of the sitting members on March 29. While the political parties can field their candidates for the graduates’ seats, they will have to field the candidates as independents for teachers’ constituencies. The YSR Congress backed an independent candidate in 2017 and 2021 elections and wrested the seats for the first time. This time too, the YSR Congress named its candidates for the seats ahead of the notification. The Left parties sponsored Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) is equally strong in the teachers’ constituency and it is to be seen if the strong teachers’ unions would retain their hold in the two segments or would leave them to the political parties. TDP and BJP too have named their candidates for the three graduates’ constituencies while YSR Congress has also named its nominees for the two teachers’ constituencies.

In a significant electoral outcome ahead of the Assembly elections next year, the TDP has won all three Graduate MLC seats in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, which went to polls on Monday. The Opposition party led by former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has been facing continuous defeats — be it bypolls to Assembly, the Lok Sabha or the panchayat, municipal body elections — since Jaganmohan Reddy stormed to power in 2019 winning 151 out of 175 Assembly seats. The party was quick to react, stating the results as a “clear indication of the beginning of the downfall of Jagan.” TDP supremo Naidu said, “people have won.” “Salute to the activists and leaders who stood against YSRCP irregularities. It is a people’s victory. A sign of change. The way to good. Auspicious for t...

Finally, TDP set to taste victory in Andhra Pradesh MLC polls

Express News Service VIJAYAWADA: After facing a series of debacles in all the polls held since the general elections in 2019, trends of the graduates’ constituencies’ MLC elections seem to be coming as a ray of hope to the Opposition TDP to boost the morale of the cadres before the general elections due next year.Poor performance of the party in the elections to panchayats and local bodies after the TDP debacle in the Assembly polls, disappointed the party cadres a lot for the past four years and their long wait to taste the victory has come as a big boost. Even as the ruling YSRC already won six out of the nine MLC seats, including four from the local authorities’ constituencies and two from the teachers constituencies and also in the race for another graduates’ MLC constituency, the TDP sees winning the two seats as a moral victory to the party. In both the North Andhra and East Rayalaseema graduates’ constituencies, the TDP candidates have increased their majority round-by-round and reached a comfortable stage of winning the elections. In West Rayalaseema, there is a keen contest going on between the ruling YSRC and opposition TDP candidates. Anticipating that victory is certain in the two...
