The ride to Hampi is delightful and 15mn through unspoilt Indian landscape.The staff is very nice and the food is good but : the mattresses are as hard as board not to mention the pilows! Avoid giving laundry away it will come back in a worse state than before: smelly, burnt in some places even, Decoration is often inedaquate more of a mismatch of this and that. Lots of ants inside the bedrooms and mildew stains in the bathrooms. Such a pity the management couldn t check on these issues better. Our five days and four nights at Boulders were unquestionably the high point of our month-long tour of India, even exceeding our stay at the Imperial in New Delhi. Bobby and Sarma, in particular, were helpful, gracious, friendly, and kind. Accomodations were excellent, and the food was beyond compare. We very much look forward to our next visit, hopefully with more time to explore Hampi/Vijayanagara in greater detail, but staying at the self...

This hotel is difficult to find tucked down a long track it is well worth the effort. A beautiful location, in amongst the boulders, incredible views and very peaceful (take the walk across the rope bridges to see the hidden room up at the top of the boulders, you can even see the Hampi temples from there) . The rooms are individual spaced at discrete distances, large and spacious, with verandas. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and there is a car shuttle to the ferry to Hampi about a 20 minute drive away. The food is a freshly prepared buffet every day and a good breakfast. There is beer but no other alcoholic drinks and there is no internet- a real escape from the outside world! We came to stay here after reading multiple reviews online and in Lonely Planet of how wonderful and upscale this place was. This was not our experience at all. For the cost, the rooms were outdated, without fitted sheets or having been recently cleaned. Additionally there was no where to put away clothing. The food at the hotel was average and redundant at best. The "game room" was locked with chairs piled up and cobwebs everywhere. The pool was lukewarm and stagnant water that my friend and I barely touched our toes in. The setting is stunning and the staff very nice and helpful. However, for the cost of such a place you need to deliver more. Either travellers are blind or have never really been further than their local Ramada Inn ! This place must have been fabulous years ago. The location is astonishing and the site is just kept above minimal level. In the tradition of this shall be sufficient for occasional visitors who shall never come back... Apparently the hotel has been sold and bought serveral times in recent years and management has other things to do than refurbish the place. It could be absolute paradise. The local guy in charge is really nice and does his utmost the keep the place going. the room are just a bit shabby, the bathrooms need some 21rst century tuning, the food is excellent and a campfire and barbecue was organised for the guests. A beautiful property by the banks of the Tungabadra river surrounded by the rocky boulders thst are the quintessence of Hampi. I loved the lotus pools scattered over the property which is home to butterflies, rock lizards and birds. You can sight crocodiles basking on the river rocks from your cottage though we were not lucky enough to do so. There are cute thatched cottages with different names like otter, turtle, sun, croc, etc spread over the property which afford complete privacy. The cottages have a sit out. They are air conditioned, clean & comfortable with the basic amenities The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The shower also had good force with hot water readily available. We did experience a bit of voltage fluctuation though the generator switches on. The food was good but a bit spicy for our taste. Staff were polite and helpful. The manager Mr. Vinay was extremely well-spoken, knowledgeable and very helpful. Be sure to use sunscreen, take hats or umbrellas and stay hydrated as the heat in Hampi is about 40 degrees . Boulders is about 45 minutes drive away from the Hampi monuments. It is situated in the wilderness, off the main road. One cannot take the car upto the rooms so be prepared to walk a bit.
