In a major boost towards commitment to eliminate Tuberculosis in the State, the Health and Family Welfare Department, Assam was conferred the National Award for reduction in TB cases in 2 districts under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Govt of India on Friday. Bongaigaon District was awarded Silver for 40% reduction in TB cases while Kokrajhar District was awarded Bronze for 20% reduction in TB cases respectively in the Sub National Certification for the year 2023. The award was conferred at the One World TB Summit held at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh launched by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inspected the work progress of the new Vidhan Sabha Complex that will be operational from August 2023. Guwahati: According to official sources here, the primary objectives of the Swasthya Sewa Utsav are to provide comprehensive healthcare services to the community by assessing the gaps, make the health facilities IPHS (Indian Public Health Standards) compliant, and to create and share sustainable practices related to key areas of concern in public health facilities linked to positive health outcomes. Health ministers of 25 States and Union Territories participated in the review meeting chaired by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on April 6. Health Minister of Assam, Keshab Mahanta participated in the meeting virtually from the conference hall of the Dibrugarh University guest house. GUWAHATI: Keshab Mahanta who represents the Kaliabor constituency is the new Health & Family Welfare, Science & Technology, Information Technology Minister in Himanta Biswa Sarma led-Cabinet. Mahanta was also a Cabinet Minister in Sarbananda Sonowal led-Cabinet. Keshab Mahanta was born on the 6th of July, 1959. He is the son of Late. Kamal Mahanta and is a resident of Teliagaon (Balisatra), Kaliaborin Nagaon district. He is 61 years old. He is married to Chayanika Mahanta and they have two daughters, Dibisa and Lulakshi. Keshab Mahanta did his HSLC from Kuwori Tol High School, Nagaon, in the year 1976. He then went to Kaliabor College to do his Pre-University (Class XII), in Nagaon under Gauhati University in 1978. He also did his graduation from Kaliabor College before joining Gauhati University for his Master’s in the year 1990.
