HIT: The 2nd Case Is A Riveting Procedural That Shares Some Of The Flaws Of The First Installment

The most interesting thing about the first HIT ( HIT 2, I assumed that by going bigger for the sequel, the filmmakers decided to introduce some of the old misogyny-as-masala tropes for wider appeal. Without spoiling the events of the film, let me assure you this is not really the case, that it is more subversive than it initially promises to be, and for most of its runtime, happens to be a riveting procedural that stacks tension and atmosphere like few other Telugu thrillers. It is a shame, then, that it shares the same central flaw that HIT had—that it comes apart somewhat at its denouement. In well-constructed murder mysteries, the denouement always lands as an aha! moment because we realize that the clues have always pointed to the killer, but we have been prevented from arriving at the right conclusion because the story has hidden the connecting thread cleverly. Both HIT and HIT 2 are deeply interested in the forensic details of the crime, in providing an abundance of clues, some of which click together by the end, but they don’t play fair— HIT 2 keeps a crucial piece of information concerning the identity of the killer hidden (something that would have been revealed by a simple background check) only for it to surface as a surprise later. When it does, the face-off between the hero and the villain devolves into farce, which, given how well-crafted the lead up to that point was, seems like a different film. But right up until that final stretch, HIT 2 is a terrific ride...

HIT 2 (The Second Case) review. HIT 2 (The Second Case) Telugu movie review, story, rating

'HIT 2' hit the screens today (November 2). In this section, we are going to review the crime thriller. Story: Krishna Dev (Adivi Sesh) is a cop in Vizag with an itch to take up a challenging case.Aarya (Meenakshi Chaudhary), an activist, is his live-in girlfriend. A pub worker named Sanjana gets murdered in the most horrific manner. The boss (played by Rao Ramesh) goes against Krishna Dev when the case takes an unpredictable turn. All along, the killer is untraceable despite KD's best efforts. But a solid clue clinches it for him. What is it? Can KD save himself and his girlfriend from danger? Analysis: This one is a sequel to 'HIT: The First Case' (2020), in which Vikram Rudraraju (Vishwak Sen) investigated the kidnap of his girlfriend named Neha and a college-goer named Preethi. Writer-director Dr. Sailesh Kolanu stuffed his character with detailing. He suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, panic attacks and had a great sense of smell. He was irreverent towards his superior and didn't brook the incompetence of his subordinates. When it came to cracking high-profile cases, he was his maverick self. He didn't follow the rule book and had his own playbook at work. The protagonist wallowed in agony, and didn't mind going against his boss. In an era of sequels and franchises, the mystery of the hero's past was reserved for a later part. 'HIT: The Second Case' has got a new protagonist. KD shares some similarities with the hero from the first edition. You will like exp...

Hit: The First Case Movie Review: Rajkummar Rao lends gravitas to this dawdling crime mystery

Story: Haunted by flashes of a tragic past, HIT (Homicide Intervention Team) detective Vikram (Rajkummar Rao) is forced to keep his personal battles aside as two women go missing under mysterious circumstances. College girl Preeti disappears after her car breaks down on a Jaipur highway and Vikram’s girlfriend, forensic analyst Neha (Sanya Malhotra) is nowhere to be seen either. Are the two cases connected and who’s the culprit? Review: Protagonists in South movies are mostly chain smoking-troubled geniuses of late, and this remake is no exception. If jilted lover Arjun Reddy (Vijay Deverakonda) was a high-functioning alcoholic surgeon, Vikram (Rajkummar Rao) is a panic attack-stricken brilliant detective who excels at work despite his recurring nightmares and PTSD. HIT doesn’t glorify its hero’s ordeal though. It’s brave enough to acknowledge him as ‘unfit’ for his investigative field job despite the talent. Rooted in pain, Vikram’s silent heroism and deductive reasoning skills keep you invested, if not on the edge of your seat. Two years after Sailesh Kolanu made the Telugu original by the same name, he remakes his film in Hindi with different set of actors and location. Instead of Telangana, the police procedural now plays out in Rajasthan. Kolanu retains the character names, even the story except for an alteration in the climax. Given how quickly spoilers can get leaked for whodunits, this was an obvious modification. Vikram’s past trauma hasn’t been revealed here so e...

HIT 2 Review

Story: A chopped up body is displayed in a gruesome manner with the killer even leaving behind a few clues. How will Vizag SP KD from the HIT manage to nab him? Review: HIT: The Second Case picks up after the events of HIT: The First Case, which had featured Vishwak Sen as Vikram Rudraraju. The story shifts from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh and a new case is taken up by HIT. What you expect is something much more intriguing than the ‘first case’. What you unfortunately get is a ‘second case’ that’s a mixed bag from the get-go. Krishna Dev aka KD (Adivi Sesh) is an SP in HIT (Homicide Intervention Team) in the sleepy city of Visakhapatnam. The only crimes for him to solve are of family squabbles resulting in murders. So much so that KD even uses the term kodi burralu to describe these criminals who don’t challenge him intellectually in the least. At home, he finds domesticity with his girlfriend, a boutique owner called Aarya (Meenakshi Chaudhary) and his adorable dog Max. Things soon change and KD is forced to sit up and take notice. A girl is chopped into pieces and her body is displayed gruesomely. There are numerous clues and red herrings he must decode to get to the bottom of it. HIT: The Second Case is neatly divided into two parts in a span of two hours – the set up and the pay-off. It’s unfortunate that some of the best parts of the set up are revealed in the trailer (so it’s best to skip that if you haven’t seen it already). As a result, you wait for new information...
