HP Pavilion Plus 14 review: The best $1,000 you can spend on a powerful OLED laptop right now

That’s how I feel about the new HP Pavilion Plus 14, which I’m a bit blown away by regarding price and features. For $1,029, you get a gorgeous 14-inch 2.8K OLED display, excellent build quality, and an Intel 12th Gen H-series processor (aka the powerful 45-watt one). Heck, for $799, you could get a 12th Gen Core i5 U-series chip and an IPS 2.2K (2240x1400) screen. The Pavilion Plus 14 is also one of the first laptops we have seen that offers There are no options for a touch, only a 2.2K (2240x1400) IPS panel (300 nits) or the 2.8K OLED BrightView screen (400 nits). There are five color choices: Natural Silver, Warm Gold, Space Blue, Mineral Silver, and Tranquil Pink. However, only Natural Silver is available in the US, with the rest going to international markets. Managing Editor Josh Goldman is a laptop expert and has been writing about and reviewing them since built-in Wi-Fi was an optional feature. He also covers almost anything connected to a PC, including keyboards, mice, USB-C docks and PC gaming accessories. In addition, he writes about cameras, including action cams and drones. And while he doesn't consider himself a gamer, he spends entirely too much time playing them. Like • Excellent performance, display for its price • 5-megapixel webcam • Attractive all-metal body Don't like • OLED display hurts battery life • Some software bloat • No camera shutter, mic mute The 14-inch HP Pavilion Plus is a rare example of a laptop where you're actually getting more than you're paying for. The Plus, as the name implies, is a bit extra compared to the regular Pavilion laptops. In this case, you get features such as a body made of recycled aluminum, a 5-megapixel webcam, strong Intel Core i7 processing performance in our benchmark tests (even outpacing the latest MacBook Air in a couple of tests), and it's topped off with a beautiful OLED display. You won't find a 2.8K OLED display as an option on the regular Pavilion laptops, either. Compared to the typical LCD you'd find on a Pavilion and other sub-$1,000 laptops, an OLED display has a higher contrast ratio, sharper text, more vivid colors and a wide color gamut covering 100% DCI-P3 color space. The configuration I tested also came with a high-performance 12th-gen Core i7 processor an...
