HP Victus 15 (2022) review — is this cheap gaming laptop actually good?

Price: $799 CPU: Intel Core i5-12450H GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 RAM: 8GB Storage: 512GB Display: 15.6-inch, 1080p, 144Hz Battery: 4:47 Size: 14.1 x 10 x 0.9 inches Weight: 5.06 pounds Put your snobbiness away for the HP Victus 15. No, it doesn’t come with a killer response time, a fancy-schmancy Nvidia RTX 30-series GPU, nor a glitzy, animated RGB keyboard, but come on, you’re only shelling out $800 for this laptop, so give it a break! At this point, if you’ve already turned your nose up like a petulant child snubbing their vegetables, the HP Victus 15 is not for you. However, if you’re still intrigued, good! This means you’re willing to temper your expectations. The Victus 15 won’t appeal to professional gamers who demand the latest and greatest, but it has enough razzle dazzle to win the affections of casual players. The HP gaming rig sports a 12th Gen Intel Core i5 CPU, a 144Hz refresh rate display, updated thermals, and a sophisticated, office-friendly onyx chassis that can double as a work laptop. At only $800, the HP Victus 15 is a dream for unpretentious, budget-conscious gamers. However, there’s one little hiccup. The HP laptop has a stiff competitor on its hands: the Acer Nitro 5 (2022) which is, as of this writing, within the same price range. Stick around to find out whether the Victus 15 is one of the best cheap gaming laptops you can get — or perhaps there’s a better competitor that will give you more bang for your buck. • HP Victus 15 at Best Buy for $799....

But don't let that dim your interest: configurable with the latest CPUs from Intel and AMD plus some of the hottest Nvidia GeForce RTX 30-series graphics cards, the HP Victus 16 is more than respectable as a gaming machine. If you’re looking for portability, however, the Victus is hard to recommend over other gaming laptops on the market. Plus, it has some design issues that make it a bit annoying to use on a daily basis without plugging in a fair number of peripherals. This HP Victus 16 review will outline this laptop's strengths and highlight its weaknesses, which are surmountable but ultimately keep it from claiming a spot on our list of the (Image credit: Future) Our Victus review unit came configured with a 16.1-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz display, an Intel Core i7-11800H CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD with an additional 32GB of Intel Optane memory. HP Victus 15L review

The HP Victus 15L is one of those almost-there types of computers with solid 1080p performance at a fairly reasonable price. The port selection on the front of the PC is pretty great. However, its size is both a blessing and a curse, as it’s the perfect size for cramped desks but contributes to this computer’s issues with overheating. HP Victus 15L: Two-minute review Budget gaming machines like the HP Victus 15L are always an exercise in compromise. They don’t require you to sell an organ just to afford them, but they do require that you live with turning down the settings in more demanding games, sticking to a 1080p resolution, and skipping features like HDR and ray tracing. Those compromises are always going to be a part of the conversation with the best budget gaming PCs. Unlike some of the best gaming PCs, it’s just something you’ll have to accept when trying to keep the price down. The HP Victus 15L, reviewed here, is fairly capable at running even the latest games at medium settings at a 1080p resolution. And, its form factor makes it perfect for those with cramped spaces. Though it only really sets itself apart from the competition with its plethora of ports accessible on the front of the machine, it is a nice option for budget-minded gamers.
