'It's out of my control'

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced their squad for the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup on Thursday with no real surprises. The experienced batter Fakhar Zaman is part of the reserve squad following his knee injury but star pacer Shaheen Afridi is named in the squad as Pakistan are hoping for the player's recovery before their opening clash against India on October 23. Imad Wasim, who was part of last year's T20 World Cup in UAE, failed to make it to the squad and posted a cryptic tweet over his exclusion. He posted a picture stating, "it's out of my control," and put a caption, "stay happy," which clearly defines his disappointment over missing the bus for Australia. The bowling all-rounder managed to take only four wickets in six matches in the 2021 World Cup for Pakistan and was later dropped from the national team. He hasn't featured for Pakistan in any format since then and is unlikely to make his return in near future. Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, and Usman Qadir are in good form lately and all are included in T20 World Cup squad. "I have not played a single match since the World Cup. I don't know the reason behind this, to be honest. No justification has been provided to me and reasons given to me, I am unsatisfied with them. But whatever happens, happens because it is Almighty's will," Imad Wasim said in an interview with Cricket Pakistan earlier this year. Wasim has taken 55 wickets in 58 T20I matches at an average of 23.49 and an economy rate of 6.33. He is having...

PSL 2021

"First thing, I played one ball in the matches [in the first leg in Karachi] and got out first ball," he said. "The wickets were such and our top order was doing so well that I didn't even get my batting. Sometimes people look at stats but they don't have much of an idea. They see I have zero runs from five matches but I only played one ball in those five games." His bowling, he acknowledged, had been "disappointing" in a couple of games but bristled at the suggestion in one question that fans thought he was hiding himself in games out of fear of being exposed. His opening spells in the Powerplay were a central plank in Pakistan's strategy during their rise, but his performances have dipped slightly over the last 18 months, and Pakistan have been picking Mohammad Nawaz in his place. "You think fans think I would do something like this so I don't get exposed on my performances?" he asked. "It doesn't matter to me. Anyone can say whatever they want about me. It doesn't matter if the world thinks I will get exposed or not, the thing that matters is what the team requires. If the team requires me to bowl four overs, I'll bowl four overs. If it requires just one over, I will bowl just one. "I've never backed down from any challenge, and I won't now. People who know me, players who have played with me know I never back down from a challenge. Even in this leg, if I feel that I don't need to bowl a single ball I won't bowl one. The only thing that matters is the team. Personal per...

Chief selector reveals reason behind dropping Imad Wasim

Pakistan men's team chief selector Mohammad Wasim has disclosed the reason behind dropping all-rounder Imad Wasim from the white-ball squads. The 33-year-old last represented the Men in Green in the 2021 T20 World Cup while he was benched on the tour of Bangladesh. Since then, he has been out of the squad. Mohammad Wasim highlighted that Imad's performance and fitness issues were not up to the mark, "Imad's performance in the recent past wasn't up to the mark. He also has fitness issues which is why he is suffering," said Wasim [via Cricket Baaz with Waheed Khan]. "Currently, we have high fitness standards in the team. And, it is visible in team's performance," he added. Meanwhile, Wasim also explained why Mohammad Nawaz is a better option than Imad Wasim. "Looking at his performance, his fitness and performance are going good currently," Wasim praised.
