PATNA: There seems to be no respite from scorching heat for the next 4-5 days as severe heatwave conditions prevailed in Purnia, Araria, Bhagalpur, Supaul, Katihar, West Champaran, Khagaria and East Champaran districts on Sunday, according the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and MeT Centre in IMD official Piyush Singh said 12 districts faced severe heatwave conditions and it will continue for the next 4-5 days. Khagaria and Bhagalpur remained the hottest in state with maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius. Purnia recorded maximum 42.9 degrees Celsius while Patna recorded a maximum of 42.5 degrees and minimum 28.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Muzaffarpur registering a maximum of 38.8 degrees and Gaya 42.2 degrees Celsius, Singh added. Severe heatwave is likely at isolated place in Purnia, Araria, Bhagalpur, Supaul, Katihar, West Champaran, Khagaria, East Champaran, Jamui, Banka and Sheikhpura till June 8. Patna, Madhubani and Siwan witnessed heatwave on Sunday and the same weather conditions will continue till June 8. Other districts which are likely to witness heatwave for the next four days are Gaya, Kaimur, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Buxar and Aurangabad, he said. The official said such weather conditions prevail due to the movement of westerly winds. Most of the cities are likely to witness dry weather till June 8 with no forecast for rain.

PATNA: Bihar is bracing for an intense heatwave spell as temperatures are likely to hover around 40 to 42 degrees Celsius over the next four days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised yellow alerts, indicating that isolated places in West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Purnia, Khagaria and Bhagalpur districts are likely to experience heatwave conditions till June 4. Patna, along with other districts such as Aurangabad, Kaimur and Rohtas, is expected to witness the onset of heatwave conditions starting from Friday, according to the IMD alert. As per Patna Meteorological Centre's evening bulletin, five districts, including Valmikinagar in West Champaran and Sheikhpura, experienced heatwave on Wednesday as the mercury soared up to 42.4 degrees C and 42.2 degrees C, respectively. Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees C. "The feel like temperature is expected to be high during this week and dry weather conditions will prevail over the state," said Singh. The scorching heat pushed the 'feel like' temperature to unprecedented levels with Valmikinagar taking the lead at a 'feel like' temperature of 55.58 degrees C on Wednesday. Motihari in East Champaran followed at 52.91 degrees C, while Patna registered a 'feel like' temperature of 46.26 degrees C. Besides, a yellow-coloured alert has been issued for heatwave in parts of the state till Sunday. Residents in north Bihar, however, may expect respite as the Patna meteorological centre has issued forecast for thunderstorm at isolated places on Saturday and Sunday.
