India vs Afghanistan series postponed, BCCI & ACB exploring new window in September

India vs Afghanistan series is all set to be postponed to September. The series was supposed to be played in June ahead of West Indies tour. However, players’ workload management, monsoon as well as the absence of a broadcaster have forced BCI’s hands. There were talks of converting the ODI series to a T20 one but that plan is also on hold for now. Rohit Sharma & Co will get a two-week rest instead before leaving for a month-long Windies tour in late June. Rashid Khan & Co will instead tour Bangladesh. With Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul out with injuries, BCCI is cautious not to stretch the players. BCCI is rethinking the series as a whole but has kept the reasons close to its chest. One of the major hurdles is also the broadcast rights, with the deal with Diseny+Star expiring. While an interim arrangement can be sought, it remains to be seen whether the Indian cricket board can fetch the right price. Instead of the June window, the series will now be held in September before or after the homes series against Austr...

Afghanistan will tour India for a short three-match ODI series following the World Test Championship 2023 Final. While the schedule of the Afghanistan series is not announced yet, latest reports suggest the selectors will rest some of the biggies - including regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj. While earlier, there were talks of the series getting scrapped because of the limited window, the board will now go ahead with it. While the ongoing IPL 2023 is consuming for each of them in its way, the Indian team has a long tour of the West Indies after that – that include two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is from July 12th to August 13th. The Men in Blue will then travel to Ireland for a three-match T20Is before getting ready for the Asia Cup – whose future is also in limbo. There is also a meeting of the ACC after the summit clash on May 28 and the two boards may discuss the bilateral series. Even though the final decision on the same is yet to be taken, the commencement of the proposed series still looks doubtful. According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI is finding it difficult to schedule the Afghanistan series, proposed to be having three ODIs, given the time constraint and also because the broadcast deal with Disney Star has ended and a new tender is yet to be issued.
