India vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test: India claw back with R Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer to complete series sweep

NEW DELHI: India came back in heroic fashion on Friday to overcome a batting collapse and deny Bangladesh a historic win as Shreyas Iyer and India swept the two-match series 2-0. Chasing 145 for victory on a turning track, India reached the target in the first session on the penultimate day, thanks to an unbeaten and fighting 71-run partnership between Ashwin and Iyer from a precarious 74 for 7. For Bangladesh, Mehidy was the pick of the bowlers with a five-wicket haul (5/63) Bangladesh spinners were all over the Indians after the start of play on Sunday. Resuming the innings at 45 for four, India lost Unadkat (13) in the second over of the day. After slog sweeping Miraz for a six, Unadkat was caught plumb in front of the stumps with a slider from Shakib Al Hasan. Unadkat took the review in desperation but ended up wasting it. India's crisis man Pant walked into the middle and tried to put the pressure back on the opposition with his counter attacking approach. The southpaw had changed the course of the first innings with his 93 but fell for nine on this occasion with Miraz trapping him leg before. It became 74 for seven when a well set Axar Patel (34) became Miraz's fifth wicket. It was the straighter one again that thud into his pads before clipping the leg stump. AP Photo Miraz offered a loose ball in the following over and Iyer was quick to make room and punch it through cover for another boundary. Bangladesh resorted to pace in their bid to break the stand but the pla...

IND vs BAN 2nd Test highlights: Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin lead India to victory

Team India could have had a cakewalk while chasing Bangladesh's 145-run target in their second innings to win the ongoing 2nd Test however, a top-order collapse has the KL Rahul-led side in a spot of bother. The Indian skipper was the first to depart after which India kept losing wickets regularly, with Axar Patel and Jaydev Unadkat holding the fort at 45/4 at stumps on Day 3. Earlier, Bangladesh recorded 118 runs on Day 3 with the help of Litton Das's counterattacking 73-run knock, as the home side went from 113/6 to 231 after 70.02 overs. India began their chase of 145 in the worst possible fashion, losing Rahul early on as Shakib Al Hasan was able to get a leading edge off the Indian captain, with Nurul Hasan doing the rest. Cheteshwar Pujara joined Shubman Gill in the middle, but he gifted his wicket away in uncharacteristic fashion as the veteran danced down the track, unable to get hold of Mehidy Hasan's delivery which went into the gloves of Hasan who was again lighting quick to inflict the stumping. Shubman Gill struggled from the get-go, having survived a close LBW call earlier, but he departed shortly after in a dismissal that was very similar to Pujara. Axar Patel came out to bat ahead of the likes of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant which irked Sunil Gavaskar, but once Gill departed, Kohli did come out later however, his attempt to defend a delivery from Mehidy landed in the hands of an alert short leg who completed the dismissal. Patel led India's counterattack as...
