New Delhi: The Indian Air Force is celebrating its 90th anniversary today by taking the event outside Delhi for the first time. The celebrations, which are being held in Chandigarh, will feature a dazzlinghour-long air display over the Sukhna Lake with as many as 80 aircraft. A new combat uniform was alsounveiled today. Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshall VR Chaudhary, the chief guest, reviewed the parade and announced the creation of a new operational branch of the Air Force. "On this historic occasion, it's my privilege to announce that the government has approved the creation of a Weapon System Branch for the officers in the IAF. This is the first time since independence that a new operational branch is being created. This will essentially be for manning of force specialised streams of surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, remotely piloted aircraft, and weapon system operators in twin and multi-crew aircraft," Air chief VR Chaudhary said, adding that itwill save the government more than Rs 3,400 crore due to the reduced expenditure on flying training. The Air Chief Marshall also said that the forceisplanning on induction of women Agniveers starting next year. Indian air Force Day 2022: All three arms of the Indian military have upgraded to disruptive digital patterns for camouflage uniforms, the latest to join is the Air Force. These new prints, fabric and design maximise the operational efficiency of the IAF’s ground personnel for all terrains and all seasons. Most militaries across the world have switched to disruptive digital patterns in camouflage uniform. The battle fatigues are now pixelated designs, not the organic patterns that were used earlier. The digital pattern is all-terrain friendly giving personnel the flexibility to move from say desert, woodland, mountainous and urban landscape without detection more easily. In recent times, there has been a greater thrust by the military on maintaining the exclusivity of battle uniforms. Many civilians and personnel from other paramilitary forces or the police are often found wearing camouflage prints. The uncontrolled proliferation can cause security risks since anyone can get their hands on one. Shops in Army Cantonments and Military Stations are now being urged to store only the authorised variants.

The celebrations of the 90th founding anniversary of the Indian Air Force will include a flypast. Nearly 80 military aircraft and helicopters participated in the Air Force Day fly-past on Saturday at the Sukhna Lake complex in Chandigarh.
