The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) is a voluntary humanitarian organization to protect human life and health in India. It is a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Hence, it shares the fundamental principles of the same foundation bodies. The Society’s mission is to provide relief in times of disasters, emergencies and also to promote healthcare while caring for vulnerable people and communities. It has a network of over 700 branches throughout India. The society uses the Red cross as an emblem in common with other International Red Cross Societies. Volunteering has been at the very heart of the Indian Red Cross Society since its inception in 1920, with the society having Youth and Junior Volunteering programme’s. The Society is closely associated with the St.John Ambulance in India. The Red Cross Society, Chennai District Branch has its head office in Montieth Road, Egmore. It hosts a Office, Quarters and Hospital within. The District Collector of Chennai is the President, and Dr.Harish L. Mehta is the Honourable Chairman for the Chennai Branch. The Chennai branch boasts of various accomplishments over the years and a few of the activites are as in the following slides. The overarching idea behind the Junior Red Cross is to enable the country’s youth, so that they may one day contribute, in their own way, to the establishment of world peace and the welfare of Mankind. Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) was established in 1920 under the Indian Red Cross Society Act and incorporated under Parliament Act XV of 1920. The act was last amended in 1992 and of rules were formed in 1994. The IRCS has 35 State / Union Territories Branches with their more than 700 districts and sub district branches. The Indian Red Cross Society, Bhojpur District ARA established in 1972. This unit is branch of IRCS Bihar state. District Magistrate Bhojpur is the President of the Society. The Vice President is elected by the President of the Managing Body. The Chairman and others commitee members are elected by the house in annual general meeting.
