PESB picks Sukla Mistry as the next Director (Refineries) at Indian Oil

The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has picked Sukla Mistry as the next Director (Refineries) of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), potentially setting her up for the top post at the country’s largest State-run oil refiner when the present Chairman and Managing Director Shrikant Madhav Vaidya steps down in August 2023. Sukla Mistry is currently Executive Director and Refinery Head at IOCL’s Barauni refinery, a 6-million tonne (mt) capacity plant built in 1964 with the help of the erstwhile Soviet Union. Both Vaidya and his predecessor Sanjiv Singh were Director (Refineries) before they were elevated to the top post at the company. Sukla Mistry is a graduate in metallurgical engineering from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur, Howrah in West Bengal. She joined IOCL’s Haldia refinery as a graduate trainee engineer in 1986, after which she was posted as Inspection Engineer in 1987. PESB, the government’s head hunter, picked Sukla Mistry after interviewing seven candidates on Wednesday, including six from IOCL, it said on its website. IOCL is listed in the Fortune Global 500 list of the world's biggest corporations.

Meet Sukla Mistry, first woman director on IOC board

Country’s largest oil marketing company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has appointed 58-year-old Sukla Mistry as the director of refineries. She is also the first woman director on the IOC board. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) confirmed Mistry’s appointment in a tweet on its official handle. “Indian Oil welcomes Ms Sukla Mistry as Director (Refineries), the first woman Director on Indian Oil Board. With a rich experience of over 35 years in refining and petrochemicals, Ms Mistry takes over the reins of the refining business and operations of India’s largest refiner,” IOC tweeted. The newly appointed IOC director is also a nominee director of Indian Oil on the Board of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited, Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited and IHB Limited. Prior to her appointment as the Director (Refineries), she was heading IOC’s Barauni Refinery in Bihar where she played an important role in rolling out BS-6 grade fuels and ethanol blended MS. Mistry has an experience of over 35 years in the areas of refining and petrochemicals.  She has worked at IOC’s refineries at Barauni, Digboi, Haldia and Panipat as well as at the Refineries Headquarters. Mistry has execution-related experience in various greenfield and brownfield projects in refineries.Â

Sanjaya Bhatnagar takes charge as head of IOC’s Gujarat Refinery

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) announced the appointment of Sanjaya Bhatnagar as the Executive Director and Refinery Head of public sector refiner’s Gujarat Refinery near Vadodara in Gujarat. Bhatnagar assumed the charge on February 1, 2021. He succeeds Sudhir Kumar, who superannuated from the service on January 31, 2021. Bhatnagar’s previous assignment was Executive Director (Technical) at Gujarat Refinery, which has the nameplate capacity of 13.7 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). “Bhatnagar has taken charge at a crucial time when Gujarat Refinery is gearing up for the next phase of growth to become a major PetChem hub through the Petrochemical & Lube integration project,” an official statement from the company said. The project is believed to enhance the petrochemical and specialty product integration index of Gujarat Refinery to 20.7 per cent on incremental throughput and also enhance the refinery capacity from 13.7 MTPA to 18 MTPA, making it the largest refinery amongst IOCL refineries.
