Balbirnie described confirmation of the Lord's Test as "very welcome" with the Irish not having played at Test level since the 2019 match at Lord's. "We are excited to be returning to play the red-ball game next year," added the Ireland skipper. "It's one of four Test matches we are scheduled to play in 2023 which is important for such a relatively young squad." Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom expects the Lord's test to be another "memorable occasion" after the atmosphere generated by the presence of so many Irish fans in 2019. "We hope to see many returning and new fans lining up for this next Test, supporting the boys in green and show not just that Test cricket has a vibrant future but that Ireland is a worthy addition to its rank...

This England side are ripping up the history of the game. Ben Duckett will try and play the way he has played against Australia. I can't see how you will be consistently successful if you are not going to leave one in every hundred but Ben Duckett will have a go. He looks in a fantastic state of mind. He looks so compact. England opener Ben Duckett on Today at the Test: "It was very good. It genuinely hasn't sunk in. I'll have some food and reflect on it. it's been a crazy six months and to start the summer like that and make a century at Lord's was something I dreamt of as a kid. Ireland vs England time, TV channel, live stream, lineups, betting odds for 2023 Six Nations match

Ireland and England face off in Dublin to close out Super Saturday and bring the curtain down on the 2023 Six Nations. The hosts are looking to make it a St. Patrick's weekend to remember: if Ireland win at the Aviva Stadium, it'll seal their first championship trophy since 2018, along with both the Grand Slam and Triple Crown titles. Definitively ranked as the world's No.1 side in 2023, Ireland have so far been worthy of the title, sweeping aside all who've come before them and securing bonus points in three of their four championship games. Wales and 2022 Grand Slam winners France were both dispatched with little fuss, both being outscored four tries to one as Andy Farrell's men powered into early leads and suffocated all signs of life out of any potential comebacks. A valiant Italy effort saw the Azzurri stay with Ireland until the final quarter of their game in Rome, while Scotland had the better of the early stages at Murrayfield last time out. Conceding the game's first try for the first time in 2023, Ireland soon rallied to score three of their own, with James Lowe and Jack Conan's quick-fire second-half scores wrestling the game firmly back into Ireland's tight-fisted control. 🏆 The target on Under new head coach Steve Borthwick, England had been making progress throughout the tournament. A late loss to Scotland on the opening weekend was followed up by convincing, if unspectacular, victories over Italy and Wales, with England's dominant forward pack providing the ...

Tongue takes five wickets as England crush Ireland

LONDON, June 3 (Reuters) - Seamer Josh Tongue took five wickets to help England thrash Ireland by 10 wickets in the one-off test at Lord's on Saturday ahead of the Ashes series against Australia, but the visitors salvaged some pride with a brave batting effort on the third day. Having bowled out Ireland for 172 in their Resuming on 97-3, Harry Tector got Ireland off to a strong start, scoring 51 off 98 balls before holing out to point for debutant Tongue's fourth wicket of the innings. Lorcan Tucker and Curtis Campher also departed before lunch to leave Ireland reeling, a third successive innings defeat seemingly inevitable after two heavy Andy McBrine and Mark Adair launched an effective counter-attack, however, in a blistering seventh-wicket stand, scoring 163 runs off 165 balls -- the highest-ever test partnership for Ireland. Matthew Potts broke the stand when Adair, on 88, got the slightest of touches on a delivery as it flew through to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow. McBrine battled on after Fionn Hand became Tongue's fifth scalp, scoring 86 not out as he dragged Ireland over the line and forced the hosts to bat again, albeit briefly. Chasing a paltry target of 11, England opener Zak Crawley hit Adair for three boundaries in four balls to seal England's 11th win in 13 tests. "I think it gives us a good insight into the conditions and what we might get against Australia in the summer coming up," England captain Ben Stokes told the BBC. "Ireland could have easily got furt...
