2023 Jawa 42 Bobber Unveiled In India With Styling And Tech Refinements

Classic Legends, the company behind the Jawa motorcycle brand in India, recently updated the 42 Bobber with a slew of refinements that bring the retro-style cruiser to the 21st century. Employing similar styling as that of the more premium Triumph Bonneville Bobber, the Jawa 42 Bobber is much more accessible thanks to its affordable price tag, while offering performance that’s more attune to the Indian market. First introduced in 2020, the 2023 model-year brings a few styling and As you swing a leg over the bike, you’ll notice that the fuel tank has also been reshaped to offer better grip for the rider’s knees. The fuel tank has been shortened slightly, to accommodate shorter riders, and the saddle is also adjustable in height to allow riders of all sizes to get comfy aboard this classic-style cruiser. Furthermore, the On the performance side of the equation, the bike continues to be powered by a 334cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine. With 30 horsepower and 24 pound-feet of torque on tap, it’s adequately powerful for city and highway riding. In compliance with the latest emissions regulations in India, the Jawa 42 Bobber has been equipped with an OBD-2 system that flashes an error warning on the dash if the system detects an unusually high amount of emissions coming out of the exhaust. Whenever you hear the word bobber, chances are bikes like the Triumph Bonneville Bobber or Harley-Davidson Street Bob come to mind. However, there are quite a number of these cruiser-style machines on offer from smaller manufacturers, particularly in the Asian market. One such model just recently broke cover, and it’s from Indian manufacturer Jawa, who recently made a comeback in the Indian market under Classic Legends. Jawa has always been known for its retro-inspired machines that pack fairly modern technology packaged in a lightweight machine, usually with displacements in the 300cc range. Well, the Jawa 42 Bobber is no different, and at a glance, looks very similar to how Triumph has designed its Right off the bat, the similarities between the Bobber and Jawa’s other model, the Perak, are uncanny. Everything from the body lines to the premium fit and finish look just like the Perak. However, the Bobber is slightly slimmer and more naked than the Perak, which features a streamlined headlight cowl. Apart from that, the Bobber gets a compact LED headlight with a revised instrument console. The wide handlebar with inverted bar-end mirrors is a nice touch, too. The bike gets a muscular tank with knee indents, and an all-new saddle which can be moved fore and aft up to 25 millimeters according to your ergonomic preferences. If you think the Jawa 42 Bobber looks just like the older Jawa Perak, you're quite right. In fact, the 42 Bobber is heavily based on the older bike. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, because it still looks quite outstanding and very eye catching, but there's a little more to it that just that. The stretched out laid back vibe to it with that big 18-inch wheel up front, the bars that are bent backwards, the barn end mirrors, the floating single-seat, the slick swingarm and curvy tail end. It's a Perak with an element of modernity to it. The Bobber gets livelier paint schemes, LED lighting all around, and there's no retro analogue speedo and fuel gauge, instead, the Bobber gets an all-digital single pod cluster that's borrowed from the Jawa Roadster model. And there's some other bits thrown on there as well which alter the bikes ergonomics. 42 Bobber is slightly different from the older Perak in terms of the riding position and ergonomics, too. The tank isn't tear-drop shaped but gets recesses for your knees with some tank pads slapped on. The footpegs are slightly more forward set, which alter the rider triangle when you get to the bars, the seat is of a different shape, and the rear suspension has been softened to take on bumps a little better, but how does that translate out on the road?
