Toll of JSW workers killed in road mishap climbs to 8, PM, Odisha CM offer condolences

By Mohammad Suffian: A day after a speeding coal-laden truck hit a bus carrying workers of JSW Bhusan Power and Steel Ltd on Odisha’s Jharsuguda-Sambalpur Biju Expressway, the toll of JSW workers killed in road mishap climbed to eight as four more persons, who were critically injured in the accident, succumbed to their injuries at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Tiwari, Sher Bahadur, Birkpal Singh, Pankaj Jha, Dhankumar Ray, Rajesh Kumar Singh and Suraj Thakur. The deceased were working at the JSW Bhusan steel plant. All the deceased were from outside Odisha and were staying at Jharsuguda, police said. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased persons and has wished for a speedy recovery of the injured persons. Taking to Twitter, Patnaik wrote, "I am saddened to know about the loss of life in the fatal road accident near Jharsuguda Sarbahal. May the immortal soul rest in peace and express my condolences to the bereaved family. Also, I wish the injured people a speedy recovery."

Jharsuguda : The death toll of JSW Bhushan Power & Steel Limited Employees killed in bus accident rose to eight, while 9 others who are critical are getting treated in VIMSAR Burla and Samleswari Nursing Home, Burla. Police identified the deceased employees as Pankaj Kumar Jha (42) a resident of Belloun in Darbhanga District in Bihar, Rajendra Prasad Diwedi (35) , resident of Baratola in Satna of Madhya Pradesh , Preetipal Singh (37), a resident of Mango in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, Sher Bahadur Yadav (35), a resident of Phaphamanu, Dist. Praygraj , Uttarpradesh, Rajesh Singh (38) , a resident of Jigna in Chhapra District in Bihar , Dhan Kumar Rai (38) , a resident of Rengali , Sambalpur, Suraj Thakur (27) , a resident of Bidyanagar , Jharsuguda , Vikash Kumar (35) , a resident of Shivosagar, Bihar. As per report, out of 9 critically injured, 7 employees are getting treated VIMSAR Burla, while 1 employee is getting treated at Samleswari Nursing home, Burla., 1 has been referred to Vikash multi-specialty Hospital, Bargarh Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari and Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishor Das had expressed their grief over the tragic incident and took to twitter to wish for the early recovery of those injured. “It’s a very unfortunate incident. Investigators Describe Chaotic Scene of NY Thruway Tour Bus Crash – NBC New York

Authorities continued to investigate a bus crash that left 57 people injured, as first responders described a chaotic scene as they rushed to pull people from the wreck. The tour bus bound for Niagara Falls ran off the New York State Thruway west of Syracuse and Area first responders rushed to the scene, including firefighters from Port Byron who were in the middle of a celebration of the department’s 150th anniversary. The bus landed on its side in the grass on the highway's westbound side. Almost all of the bus's windows had been blown out, Port Byron Fire Chief Corey Rooker told Syracuse.com. State Police are investigating a serious injury rollover crash involving a tour bus on I-90 WB, in the town of Brutus, Cayuga County. The right lane remains closed just west of exit 40 (Weedsport), causing traffic delays of approximately 8 miles. Many of the injured appeared to be families with small children, Rooker said. First responders from a number of local units were aided by Good Samaritans who stopped to help, including one person who dropped off a dozen first-aid kits, he said. All 57 people aboard the bus were taken to area hospitals including the driver, identified as Fermin Vasquez, 66, of Wingdale, New York. The bus was operated by JTR Transportation of Poughkeepsie.

The collision with a pickup truck happened about 6:53 p.m. in Woodbridge Township, just west of Staten Island at the Thomas Edison service area entrance, New Jersey State Police said. According to police, the driver lost control of the bus in the area of milepost 93.2 and hit a Ford F-150. "After the impact, the bus went off the road to the right, struck the guardrail, and overturned onto the Thomas Edison Service Area entrance ramp," police said in an update Wednesday. Civilians and police stand together along an area of the New Jersey Turnpike after a bus crash Tuesday. NBC New York Two of the 22 bus passengers died, according to authorities. They were identified Wednesday as Cheryl Johnson, 59, of Bronx, New York, and Cecilia Kiyanitza, 66, of Woodbury, New Jersey. The bus driver, a 56-year-old man from Westville, New Jersey, and two passengers had serious injuries, police said. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Raritan Bay Medical Center and Staten Island University Hospital received patients, police said. The remaining four passengers and the driver of the Ford F-150 were not hurt, according to police. NBC New York reported the double-decker bus was headed from New York to Philadelphia.
