Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari

Amazing experience! This would go down as one of the most precious experiences. Energy here is clearly something else. Only way to get there is a ferry. Ticket prices recently went up. Regular is Rs 75 and special ticket is Rs 350. AC Special ticket is Rs 450. I would say that the special tickets are really really worth it. There are multiple sets of lines you would avoid. One is ticketing line, next is a staging line inside the terminal. Next is dock line which is also a long wait in sun. Last is mad man like pushing and shoving getting on the ferry. They have a special sofa seating. There is no real AC thing any way so avoid buying AC ticket. On the rock, the energy is unbelievable. We didn’t have more time otherwise I would have spent hours here. There is a temple, Vivekananda monument and a mediation room. Most amazing views. One must visit this place but people do not maintain silence in Dhyan Mandir. May be good to visit during off season. In May it was crowded. no photography allowed inside still some people want to take pix. Ferry cost is high. Rs.75/- for about a km sailing and special entry ticket is 300/- But when you come back all must follow same que. no value for special ticket...:( Maintenance of the memorial is very good. If you want to climb up to dhyan mandir again pay 30/- From there another ferry will take you to Tiruvalluvar statue drop and the next ferry can be used to come back. Overall it is good but charges are high. Good place to visit but the fer...

We went to the temple in the evening hours. There is a parallel system of 'Paid Darshan' and 'Free Darshan'. The Priests at the Entrance insisted everyone to go for 'Paid Darshan', though there was no rush at all. However the amount is only Rs.20/- per head. Men have to enter the temple Bare-chested, but you can carry your Shirt etc in hand. The Temple is huge with large boundary and have a massive structure with a great architecture. Although they call it a Sun Set Point, its exactly not the place where you can see the Sun Set. It depends on the time and month you visit. You have a lot of places like this here in Kanyakumari starting from the beach and goes up-to Madaikadu, Kolachal etc for Sun Set Views. Ideal place to spend time with family. Not much shops or eatables available. On the main road there are Tea shops and Toilets. Visit here earlier and leave by the same as this place don't have proper lighting and also lots of Transgender menace asking for money. Looks like Govt. is not caring of these places anymore. Not properly maintained, though i feel its the people who are responsible for that. If you love beach view and breezy air, this is the place you can spend time. You can walk all along the road till the end. (Make sure you do it before dark - Photos attached) Be double careful if visiting on Weekdays.
