Rains lash J&K, MeT predicts more; ‘weather not favourable for spraying orchards’ Srinagar: Rain lashed Jammu and Kashmir even as weatherman on Wednesday forecast more precipitation till June 17. A meteorological department official here said that in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today, Srinagar received 11.2mm, Qazigund 1.8mm, Pahalgam 23.4mm, Kupwara 1.4mm, Kokernag 1.3mm, Gulmarg 4.6mm, Jammu traces, Banihal 0.2mm, and Katra 41.6mm. Regarding forecast, he said, a brief spell of rain and thunderstorm was likely at scattered places of towards afternoon and evening today. From June 15-17, he said, light to moderate rain and thunderstorm was likely at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir. “Some places in Jammu region like Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Samba etc. likely to receive moderate to heavy thundershower during 15-16th(60% chance),” he said. Importantly, he said, weather is “not” favourable for spraying orchards for the next 4-5 days. Regarding the temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 15.2°C against 16.7°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 0.9°C for the summer capital. Weather Alert! Rain predicted in Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday

The weather was mainly dry in J&K in the last 24 hours. The MeT office on Monday forecasted rain beginning on Tuesday. "Day would be mainly clear today and warmer than yesterday." "From May 13 to 17 weather would be partly to generally cloudy. During this period, light rain/thunderstorm is expected at scattered places of J&K." "Some places in Jammu region likely to receive moderate to heavy thundershower during 14-15 (60 per cent chance)," a MeT office statement said. Srinagar had 14.6, Pahalgam 7.2 and Gulmarg 10 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature today. In the Ladakh region, Leh had 6 as the minimum temperature. Jammu had 25.3, Katra 20.5, Batote 14.7, Banihal 12.1 and Bhaderwah 10.5 as the minimum temperature. Jammu & Kashmir snowfall: Avalanche hits private firm's event in Sarbal; high danger alert in Kupwara

Earlier in the day, traffic along the Srinagar-Jammu highway remained suspended due to inclement weather. The snow accumulation was reported on the highway near the Banihal stretch. Other forward roads connecting Srinagar with northern Kashmir sectors including Kupwara also remain closed. Flight operations were suspended in the Srinagar area for few hours due to poor visibility and snow accumalation on the runway.
