Monsoon finally reaches Kerala after 7

The monsoon arrived over Kerala on Thursday, seven days after it normally arrives in the state on June 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced even as climate scientists and meteorologists warned that the onset of the weather system is likely to remain weak, and its progress over the peninsula, slow, on account of severe Cyclone Biparjoy. Thiruvananthapuram: Extreme heat continues to scorch Kerala, with temperatures soaring above 40 degree Celsius in 17 different locations on Friday. Automated monitoring stations at Malampuzha in Palakkad and Peechi in Thrissur recorded temperatures crossing 42 degree Celsius. The Meteorological Department has forecasted light summer rains in some areas until 18, which may bring relief from the heat. Palakkad has experienced temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days at the Meteorological Department's monitoring stations, with temperatures 3.4 degree above normal. However, with the possibility of rain in the coming days, it is expected that the temperature will decrease. As a result, no heat warning has been issued for the next few days, and further warnings will be based on the occurrence of rain. A warning issued on Thursday stated that Thrissur and Palakkad districts are expected to have maximum temperatures around 40 degree Celsius, while Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kannur, and Kozhikode districts may experience temperatures around 37 degree Celsius, which is 2 to 4 degree Celsius above normal, on April 14, 2023.
