This was also the time when the cricketer from Madhya Pradesh was making a comeback from an injury layoff and did his job rather perfectly taking up the responsibility. In an exclusive interview with India TV, Venkatesh Iyer has opened up on his IPL stint with KKR, his injury and a lot of other aspects of his cricketing career. Here are some excerpts from the interview: • What was your reaction to the amazing finish to the IPL with Special moment. Obviously GT was playing the better cricket throughout the tournament. I was backing GT to win, but I think what CSK did, what Ravindra Jadeja did then was unbelievable, especially at the beginning of the tournament. No one gave them a chance with their bowling attack, but to win the IPL is something which is amazing and all credit should actually go to MS Dhoni, the captain. • Coming to your IPL stint, you scored 404 runs in IPL 2023 and mostly batted at 3 for KKR. A bit of a different role compared to earlier seasons. How was the experience? How did you prepare for it? Yeah, I was ready to open. But in the beginning of the season Shreyas was injured and I was asked to take up the number three spot and I've always been flexible as a batsman. I wanted to, you know, contribute irrespective of the position and my preparation included playing with the new ball and then working on the spinners and even playing death overs. I think it was a complete preparation and I worked with Abhishek Nair a lot. • You sustained an ankle injury las...

IPL 2023: Two frontrunners to replace Shreyas Iyer as KKR captain revealed

Having missed the ODI series against Australia due to a back injury, Shreyas Iyer is not expected to be fit in time for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. With the captain doubtful for at least the first half of the IPL 2023, KKR now has the task to choose a player who will lead the franchise in Shreyas’ absence. As per a report by ESPN Cricinfo, the KKR team management is understood to have already started discussing names of who can take over the leadership role on an interim basis. It is pertinent to mention that Narine is regarded among the best players to play for the franchise since 2012. However, he managed to return with only one victory and eight defeats as the team finished at the bottom of the standings. On the other hand, Rana has a record of leading Delhi in 12 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches, where he has earned eight wins and four losses. What happened to Shreyas Iyer? 28-year-old Iyer first experienced discomfort in his lower back in December last year, after India’s tour of Bangladesh. He then missed out on India vs New Zealand ODI series, followed by the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. He made it back to the XI for the second and third Tests against Australia before back pain halted proceeding for him during the fourth As per ESPN Cricinfo, Iyer then returned to Mumbai and consulted a spine surgeon. Also Read: With no return date set for Shreyas Iyer, Kolkata Knight Riders have less than a week to name their stand-in skipper for IPL 2023. The tournament kicks off on March 31 and KKR is without a skipper. Shreyas while not ruled out of the tournament entirely, will miss the initial games. He suffered a back injury and is currently at home resting. While the surgery was suggested by both BCCI and NCA, Shreyas decided to ‘wait and watch’ hopeful of featuring in the IPL. In his absence, Kolkata Knight Riders will need to appoint a new captain. Sunil Narine is the current front runner as per multiple reports. Having spent 11 seasons with KKR, Narine will take over the mantle on an interim basis until Shreyas can resume his duties. KKR Captaincy Conundrum • With just a week to go, it is unclear who will lead KKR in the upcoming IPL season. • Regular skipper Shreyas Iyer has been struck with an injury and could miss most of the season. • In his absence, the franchise are still hunting for a new captain. • Sunil Narine is a potential candidate for the leadership position. • Narine has been with the franchise for more than 11 seasons since joining in 2012. • However, he had a dismal run as captain of the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. • In the ILT20, his team only won one of his 10 games as captain. Narine incidentally led KKR’s sister franchise Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the IlT20. It did not work out well, with the franchise finishing at the bottom of the table, with just 1 win in...

IPL 2023 KKR Team Players List, Captain, Retained and Released Players

IPL 2023 KKR Squad: The Kolkata Knight Riders have won the IPL trophy on two occasions, first in 2012 by defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders, two-time champions, have ended up in 7th place on the IPL 2022 Points Table. This is not the first time KKR has experienced this, as they also placed 7th in the IPL 2013 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhirs’. It is worth noting that KKR won titles in 2012 and 2014, before and after their poor performance in 2013. KKR’s performance in the IPL over the past few seasons has been inconsistent. In 2017, they finished in 3rd place, but in 2018 and 2019, they were pushed down to 5th place. However, in the 2021 season, KKR made a comeback and made it all the way to the final, where they ultimately lost to CSK by 27 runs and ended up as the runner-up of the tournament. Gautam Gambhir, who has scored the most runs in KKR’s history, is the team’s all-time leading run-scorer. On the other hand, Sunil Narine holds the record for the most wickets taken for KKR. The team’s official theme is “Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re,” which means ” we will perform, fight, and win.” The franchise’s association with celebrity owners has contributed greatly to its immense popularity. In 2011, KKR qualified for the IPL playoffs for the first time.
