KL Rahul injury update: India batsman to start rehab at NCA from June 13

KL Rahul will start his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore from June 13 as he wants to get fit for the upcoming Asia Cup. During an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper limped off the ground with a thigh injury that he picked up during the second over of the game. Good news: KL Rahul will be going to NCA on June 13th for his rehab as he is eying a comeback through the Asia Cup. While running the length of the field to try and stop a boundary hit by RCB opener Faf du Plessis, he pulled up midway and went down on the ground in a lot of pain. As Rahul left the ground, it seemed like a serious quadriceps injury. MORE: Later in that match, although he did come to bat at number 11, the batsman couldn't run and was clearly in pain. He underwent surgery in the United Kingdom and was spotted walking with crutches in London. However, earlier this week, it was reported that he has resumed walking without help and now it seems that the batsman is ready to embark on his way to recovery. Due to the surgery, he could not participate in the ongoing World Test Championship Final 2023 (WTC Final 2023) vs Australia at The Oval. “Absolutely gutted that I won’t be at the Oval next month with Team India. I’ll do everything I can to get back in the blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority. After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it’s been...

Photograph: Robert Cianflone/Getty Images Senior India batter KL Rahul has checked in at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to start his extensive rehabilitation programme post a thigh surgery with an eye to make a return during the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in September ahead of the marquee ODI World Cup. Rahul, who captained Lucknow Super Giants, was injured during the IPL and had to pull out of the tournament and the subsequent World Test Championship final after a thigh surgery was advised. Rahul, who bats in the middle-order in ODI cricket and also dons the big gloves in the 50-over format, is an important member in the ODI set-up in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who is also recovering from a horrific car crash in December last year. The 31-year-old has scored 2,642 runs in 47 Tests, 1,986 runs in 54 ODIs and 2,265 runs in 72 T20Is with 14 international hundreds across formats.

KL Rahul provides injury update: Comeback date set for India batter?

He underwent thigh surgery in the UK soon and also missed out on the WTC Final for the same reason. Meanwhile, the cricketer has returned to Bangalore, his home town, and is set to undergo extensive rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy. If the reports in PTI are to be believed, the cricketer is eyeing to return for the Asia Cup that is to be played in September. It is a crucial tournament for India with World Cup to commence on October 5. With Rishabh Pant still recovering from the horrific car crash in December last year, Rahul becomes a vital cog as a wicketkeeper-batter in India's line-up. Coming back to Rahul returning to his home town, he checked in at the NCA and posted a tweet about it as well. As for the Asia Cup, nothing is official at the moment in terms of PCB's hybrid model getting approved. Reportedly, the ACC has approved the model with four matches set to be played in Pakistan while the rest of the tournament will take place in Sri Lanka. The competition will be played from September 1 to 17, and all teams including India have a great chance to test their World Cup squad in the Asia Cup.

It has been a tough Indian Premier League (IPL) season for KL Rahul. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper has not been in the best of form in this year's IPL. He has scored 279 runs across 9 innings so far, a disappointing run by his standards. Before he could script a comeback, the batsman suffered thigh injury against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
