Cyclone Mocha to trigger rain in some districts

The state weather department Saturday said that while Cyclone Mocha wouldn’t be making landfall in West Bengal, it would trigger rainfall in a few districts over the next two days. According to the Met office, there is a possibility of rainfall accompanied by stormy weather due to the cyclone which is currently centered around Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A official of the Met department said, “Cyclone Mocha will not affect West Bengal much but its effect is going to be severe in Myanmar and Bangladesh region.There is also possibility of rainfall in several districts of West Bengal due to the impact of the cyclone.” “Cyclone Mocha has transformed into a severe cyclonic storm. It is going to turn even more severe and move towards the north and north-eastern region and affect the coastal region of Myanmar. When the landfall occurs, the speed of the cyclone is likely to be around 175 km/ph,” said the official. “For a few days, the temperature will go down in most parts of West Bengal but there is a possibility of a heatwave next week. Till May 14, a high alert has been issued near the Bay of Bengal region. Fishermen in coastal areas of Bengal have been advised not to venture into the sea till Sunday,” said the senior official.
