It will not be wrong to say that the Kota Dussehra Mela is the most important and famous event of the cultural calendar of the city. Kota, situated on the banks of Chambal River is a place which is known not only for its contribution on educational front but also on the cultural one. Dussehra mela can be called as a mega event of Kota which is famous not only in the city but in the whole country. Dussehra is the day which symbolizes the victory of good over evil. People of Kota are especially excited for the start of Dussehra mela every year as the days of this event bring delight, happiness and sparkling smiles of faces of people. Kota Dussehra mela is the longest fair known in India and the grand extravaganza lasts for almost 25 days. The history of this fair can be traced back to 1723 AD and was started in the reign of Mahrao Durjanshal Singh Hada. The effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad which are more than 75 feet tall are burnt to symbolize the victory of good over evil. No Kota Dussehra fair this year, 2nd cancellation in 126 years

The grandeur of yearly month-long famous Kota Dussehra fair will not be seen this year along with the Dussehra fairs in Kullu and Mysore due to restrictions in place to contain Covid-19. The cancellation of the Kota Dussehra mela is only the second such instance in its 126 year history, said experts.
