Kovalam to rameshwaram

I suggest you to take the following route Kolvalam - Poovar - Kaliyakkavila - Marthandam - Nagercoil - Tirunelveli - Sayalgudi - Rameshwaram. I have traveled from Kovalam to Tirunelveli few weeks back. The roads from Kovalam to Nagercoil outskirts is an undivided highway, mostly in good shape with some bad stretches near Kaliyakkavila and in Nagercoil outskirts. From Nagercoil ,within 20km you will reach NH7 which is a divided highway, you can eazily drive 100+. I have no idea about the roads from Tirunelveli to Rameshwaram.

Hi Rameshwaram to Kovalam is around 400 KMS and the time is anything between 9 to 12 hours depending on your mode of transport (meaning bus or your own cab). I am not sure if there are any direct bus links (since you seem to prefer the road route) between these two places and you will either need to take a bus to Tuticorin or to Tirunelveli and change over another to Trivandrum / Kovalam. Assuming you prefer a bus journey, my point here is, if you are doing the Tuticorin leg, the famous Tiruchendur is just a stone throw away and if you are doing the Tirunelveli route, you will be skirting Kanyakumari. Since you are travelling with your family, you may want to consider a break at either of these places for it not only gives them a break but also a chance to catch up with one of these historic locales . .
