Uttar Pradesh court rejects bail plea of aide of Atiq Ahmed's brother

A local court here has rejected the anticipatory bail application of Abdul Samad alias Saddam, the brother-in-law of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed's brother Ashraf, Bareilly prosecution officer said on Friday. Saddam is alleged to have been involved in the conspiracy to kill advocate Umesh Pal, who was shot dead in broad daylight on February 24. Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar Dubey on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Saddam, who has five cases registered against him in Bareilly and carried a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his arrest, district prosecution officer Sunit Kumar Pathak said. Ashraf, who is a former MLA, and Saddam used to conspire to kill police officers, threaten witnesses, and collect extortion while in Bareilly jail, the officer told the court during the bail hearing. After the murder of Umesh Pal and his security personnel in Prayagraj, an FIR was filed at the Bithri Chainpur Police Station in Bareilly against Ashraf, his brother-in-law Saddam, henchmen Lalla Gaddi, jail warden Shivhari Awasthi, canteen director Dayaram alias Nanhe, and other jail officers and employees for conspiracy, extortion, and giving protection to criminals. By Santosh Kumar Sharma: In a recent development in the murder case of Umesh Pal, the key witness in the 2005 killing of BSP MLA Raju Pal, the Uttar Pradesh Police has sent the photographs and other details of the shooters to seven other states. According to the information received by India Today, the UP Police has sought the help of officials in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Delhi. Atiq Ahmed, currently lodged in a Gujarat prison, is the main accused in the 2005 murder case of BSP legislator Raju Pal. Kaish told police that the shooters in the case also worked closely with Atiq Ahmed's wife, Shaista Parveen. Mohammad Ghulam, one of the shooters, was in close contact with Atiq Ahmed's sons, who are presently lodged in jail, he told police. Further, he told the cops that Shaista Parveen had asked shooters Asad and Ghulam to flee after they had opened fire on Umesh Pal. Shooter Arman used to take care of Shaista's security, Atiq's driver told police, adding, Guddu Muslim was one of the closest to Atiq Ahmed for nearly 30 years. The arrested duo were identified as Mohammad Raza alias Lalla Gaddi and Mohammad Arif, a resident of Pilibhit. On April 17, the police had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for anyone providing information leading to the arrest of Saddam, who is the brother-in-law of Ashraf. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Bareilly zone, P C Meena on Friday announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on Saddam’s head, said Circle Officer (City-3) Ashish Pratap Singh. Umesh Pal, the key witness in the murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his police security guards Sandeep Nishad and Raghvendra Singh were shot dead on February 24 outside his home in Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj. Following the murder, an FIR was filed at Bithri Chainpur police station here against Saddam, Ashraf, his henchman Lalla Gaddi, Bareilly district prison warden Shivhari Awasthi, canteen director Dayaram alias Nanhe, jail officers and employees on charges of conspiracy, extortion and giving protection to criminals, among others.
