Last year legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s untimely demise came as a shock to the entire film and music fraternity. The singer passed away due to multiple organ failure in Mumbai. To honour her first death anniversary, actors Raveena Tandon, Asha Parekh, Hema Malini, and Kajol met to pay tribute to her. Raveena shared a couple of pictures from the meet up and wrote, “All about tonight! Legends in honour of Lata Mangeshkarji, Asha Parekh ji, Hema ji.” In the pictures, Hema and Asha were seen seated in sarees. While Hema donned a green one, Asha wore a black one. Hema wore a green and silk saree, and Asha looked beautiful in a black saree. Kajol and Raveena stood behind them. Lata Mangeshkar was not just someone with whom Saira Banu and late legend Dilip Kumar had a professional rapport. Banu tells us, “She has been my voice totally in films. I have been fortunate enough to start with her voice in my very first film Junglee. She recorded my first song Ja Ja Ja Mere Bachpan. New Delhi:The legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, fondly known as The Nightingale of India, was a musical force to reckon. February 6, 2023 marks the first death anniversary of the veteran singer who left for her heavenly abode last year, at the age of 92.The legendary singer died due to multiple organ failure, the doctors said. Her career spanned over 80 years and she sang more than 5,000 songs in 36 Indian languages. From Madhubala to Madhuri Dixit, she lent her voice to all leading actresses in the country. Lata won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989. In 2001, the Government of India conferred on her the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, acknowledging her contribution to music. France too bestowed her with its highest civilian award, the Officer of the Legion of Honour, in 2007. Lata Mangeshkar was born to theatre artistes and singers — Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti — in Indore on September 28, 1929. Her siblings, Meena, Asha, Usha, and Hridaynath are all singers. Lata shifted to Mumbai in 1949 after her father's death in 1942. She learned Hindustani music from Ustad Aman Ali Khan in Mumbai.
