By India Today Web Desk: Maharashtra BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap died aged 59 on Tuesday after battling illness for several months. Jagtap, the legislator from Chinchwad in Pune, was suffering from cancer and had been undergoing treatment for a long time. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde paid his respects at the MLA's residence in Pimple Gurav today. Jagtap was a three-time MLA from the Chinchwad Assembly seat. Despite his ailment, Jagpat had travelled from Pune to Mumbai in an ambulance to cast his vote during the Rajya Sabha and Maharashtra Legislative Council elections held in May and June last year, which earned him praise in political circles. BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap, a popular leader in the industrial city of Pimpri-Chinchwad, died Tuesday morning after a protracted illness at a private hospital in Baner. He was 59. The three-time sitting Chinchwad MLA was admitted to a private hospital more than two months ago and had been on ventilator support. The body will be brought to his residence at Pimple Gurav around 2 pm and the public can pay their last respects from 3 pm to 6 pm. The funeral will be held at 7 pm, a family member said. Paying tributes, Chief Minister Shinde also directed that MLA Jagtap be cremated with full state honours. A fitness enthusiast, Jagtap’s health started deteriorating two years ago after he was detected with a serious illness. However, he continued to attend party meetings and rallies, and pursued development works in his constituency, said his close aides. Pune: Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Laxman Jagtap died at 59 on Tuesday, party sources said. Jagtap, the legislator from Chinchwad in Pune, was suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment since a long time, a family member said. He breathed his last at a private hospital here, sources said. On December 22, Mukta Tilak, the party legislator from Kasba seat in Pune, had passed away. Jagtap was a three-time MLA from Chinchwad Assembly seat.
