Laykyun Sekkya Buddha (Monywa)

I guess the most incredible thing about this massive structure is the fact money could be found for its construction in an impoverished country. In the late afternoon it took on a surreal feeling looking down on us with an all knowing expression of indifference. At 424ft its claimed to be the worlds tallest standing Buddha. It dominates everything and can be seen for miles. I liked the spacious courtyard ideal for views of the sunset that turned the monument to gold. At over 380 feet tall this statue ranks as the third tallest in the world. It is impressive! I have read that you can ascend inside the Buddha. That may well be so as there are windows evenly spaced on the forward-facing façade, however we got there late in the day and concentrated on photographing the exterior in the late afternoon sun. In the middle of a forest there is the tallest buddha in the world. (which I did not re-check on Google yet). It is 31 stories high, 116m tall and you can go up im the inside. There you move through the different stages of a buddha life starting with the hell and ended up in Nirwana. Im front there is a huge reclining buddha with 95m long and another sitting one is currently in progress. It is really another planet and absolutely stunning. Please could anyone advise me. We have approximately one afternoon in Monywa ...
