St. Joseph Lighthouses (Saint Joseph)

I arrived during a rainstorm with the temperatures in the high 30s, so not quite the ideal beach day. With that said, it was very easy to park and pay at Tiscornia. An hour was around $2 and required registration at a kiosk using your license plate. There were pathways to reach the beach and lighthouse and there was a clean and accessible bathroom. This was a great photography opportunity even in poor weather. Only two other people dropped by while I was there. When the weather is good and you can safely walk out onto the North Channel Pier — you’ll be rewarded for a scenic panoramic view of Lake Michigan and up close images of the two lights that comprise the Saint Joseph Lighthouses. Silver Beach Park is nearby and of course the quaint community of downtown St. Joe with shops and eateries is within walking distance back up on the bluff. Sunsets are spectacular. And the lifestyle of a beachfront town like St.Joe is very addictive. Great little beach, well worth the fee ($3 for an hour) and if you wanted to stay all ($7) it would be money well spent. Love that we had waves to wade in as we enjoyed the view of the lake. The lighthouses add a nice reason to get some steps in, learn a little history, and take some great photos. Love the pet friendly water fountain and the bathroom amenities were very clean. This place is a win for anyone who wants to visit Lake Michigan! Tours were closed when we went, but really interesting is the Swing Bridge, not too far away. There is no ...

St. Marks Lighthouse (Tallahassee)

So, in order to visit this lighthouse you must drive thru St Marks NWR which is equally awesome. The road is newly paved and there are clean restrooms as well as a well stocked gift shop. The staff at the gift shop are very knowledgeable and will stamp your Lighthouse Passport book for you. Unfortunately we couldn’t spend a great amount of time exploring around the lighthouse as the rain just wouldn’t quit A must do event After wanting to visit this landmark for years, I planned an trip when the weather would be a beautiful clear blue sky day. Glad we did! It was very pretty from several angles against that sky! Only problem was we couldn’t “go up” the stairs. There was a notice telling the few days when it would be open for that BUT if it was listed on the website, I missed it! Probably would have even added to the nice visit to this historic site dating back to well before the Civil War - of which it played a significant part in. Surrounding area is nice including a visitors center to it and the wildlife area. We didn’t go prepared for hiking but there are tons of trails for those who wish to do so! And the surrounding area adjacent to the lighthouse site is very pretty and interesting. Only saw a few birds but was not early or late which would’ve probably had more! And again the “hiking” would no doubt result in more wildlife potential sittings. Perhaps on a return visit and when the entrance to the actual lighthouse is also opened! Highly recommend a visit! We really e...

Lighthouse Park (Port Huron)

This is a well-maintained park; with great views of the lake, and all its activities and traffic. The beach is quite nice; but the real highlight, is the adjacent lighthouse complex. One can explore the area on their own; but the best option is taking a tour. The guides are friendly, knowledgeable and provide an engaging and informative perspective on the structures and their history. This is really a nice option to have available; if one is visiting (or living in) the area. Awesome clean beach. BRING WATER SHOES! There are lots of little rocks closer to the shoreline. It did not seem to both most people but I'm glad we packed water shoes. Water is clear and clean. It is a great location to watch sailboats, large shipping freighters, and more. The gate was open so we were able to park in the lot for free. But roadside parking is very close and also an option. Kids ages 7 and 9 and we spent 5+ hours there. Will visit again!

Browns Point Lighthouse Park

Browns Point Lighthouse Park (4.03 acres) lies on the tip of historic Browns Point, and provides waterfront access for the community. A large green space makes this a nice spot for a picnic as you watch the deep-sea ships entering Tacoma’s busy port. Point Northeast Historical Society The Browns Point Light House Park “Adopt a Park” partnership between Points Northeast Historical Society and Metro Parks was established in October 2000. Building Improvements The nonprofit community group Points NE Historical Society restored the buildings at Browns Point Lighthouse Park. They’ve been very successful in securing grants, and are working to complete the project. Tours You can take a step back in time as you tour the History Center, Boathouse, replica surfboat, original fog bell and the Light Keeper’s Cottage. • Open Saturdays between 1 and 4 pm beginning May 28, 2022 • Free admission • Contact Overnight Rentals Experience even more of the life of a lighthouse keeper by signing up for a one-week tour of duty and staying in the Light Keeper’s Cottage. Keepers learn local history and conduct tours of the lighthouse grounds and facilities. Relax and watch sailboats, walk on the beach, fish from the shore, enjoy sunsets and reading in antique rocking chairs from the porch. Contact Parking Lot Metro Parks Tacoma does not have an ownership position in the two lots to the south of the Lighthouse property that the Brown’s Point Improvement Club is on. Nice beach for a summer afternoon. You can't go out far since the shipping channel is fairly close but that means great close-up views of freighters passing by. The beach is a little rocky so wear beach shoes. The beach is adjacent to the lighthouse which makes for a nice view. They added a parking charge for their tiny parking lot this year but there is plenty of street-side parking available. The playground is shaded. The metal slides can get hot when the sun hits them. Beautiful beach and park. Something for everyone whether you just want to relax or ...
