Sourav Ganguly Set To Replace Ricky Ponting As Delhi Capitals' Head Coach In IPL 2024

Former Indian captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who was the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023, is all set to replace former Australian captain Ricky Ponting as the new head coach of the franchise. According to a report published in a Bengali media outlet, the 50-year-old will be DC's head coach in IPL 2024. Ponting, who won the IPL title as head coach with the Mumbai Indians in 2015, has been associated with the Delhi Capitals since IPL 2018, and under his mentorship, Delhi reached the final of the IPL for the first time in the 2020 season. In 2021, DC finished at the top of the points table but lost both qualifiers. But in the last two seasons, Delhi has failed to reach the playoffs. They finished fifth in IPL 2022 and ninth this year. Ponting, who featured for Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors India as a player during the initial seasons of the IPL, was the Director of Cricket for DC in the 2019 season, well before he joined the BCCI as President. In that season, Delhi performed well under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy and secured a place in the playoffs. After taking charge of BCCI, Ganguly had to leave his role, but he remained on good terms with DC owners and players, which is why after he was removed from the role of BCCI president last year, he re-joined the side ahead of the cash-rich league this year.

Player of the Match | Shubman Gill The calmness which the boys had was terrific. We wanted to keep the momentum going. We have ticked a lot of boxes. (On Gill) He knows when he plays those cricketing shots, it's a different Shubman Gill. He doesn't give any chance and that gives confidence to the other batter as well. We would have taken 197 at the start, but we didn't bowl well. Special innings from Kohli, but we went too early for the death overs. I can't ask anything better from the boys.
