Heavy rains lash Lucknow; downpour to continue for the next 2 days, says IMD

Heavy downpour in Lucknow has resulted in waterlogging & traffic snarls in many areas of the city. IMD has issued an orange alert as a warning for extremely bad weather with the potential of disruption in commute with road and drain closures and interruption of power supply. A circular issued by the Meteorological Centre further reads that moderate to heavy rainfall, with gusty winds, are most likely to persist through the warning spell. Several areas in the city, namely Hazratganj, Lalbagh, Aashiyana, Aliganj Arjunganj, IT Chauraha, several blocks in Gomti Nagar and others are intensely waterlogged. Visuals coming from the Airport Road in Lucknow also display the scourge of the heavy rains. Reportedly, the turbulent weather has also uprooted several trees and caused disruption in the electricity supply across Lucknow. Besides roads, the rainwater has also found its way into residential complexes and houses. Electricity outages in many VVIP, as well as other areas, are mounting up the citizens' trouble. "Waterlogging is major near PGI and that worst part is that there is no electricity from around 2-3 AM, last night. Water supply has also stopped here which is causing a problem of shortage", said Divyansh Pandey, a South City resident. Purportedly, Mahanagar and Alambagh in Lucknow are also facing similar issues.
