Who is Maa Katyayani? Maa Katyayani is regarded as one of the most violent forms of Goddess Durga. The The Vamana Purana says that Maa Katyayani was created from the combined energies of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and other Gods after the demon Mahishasura and his wrongdoings angered them. They manifested this anger in the form of energy rays which crystallized in the hermitage of Katyayana Rishi, who then gave it proper form. This is why this form of Maa Durga is also known as Katyayani or the daughter of Katyayana. Impressed with his devotion and adulation, Goddess Durga granted his wish of becoming a father to Maa Durga.
