Katyayini is the sixth form amongst the Navadurga, worshipped during the sixth day of Navratri celebrations. A warrior Goddess, she is associated with the fierce forms of Shakti or Durga. She is often seen holding a shining Chandrahasa (Sword) and in the company of a magnificent lion, destroying demons with her skill and the power of her third eye, which she has received directly from the trinity and demi gods of the Hindu Pantheon. As per Hindu mythology, Devi Katayayani showers her blessings on those marriageable girls who worship her with complete devotion. She was the daughter of Sage Katya of the Katya clan. This is how she got her name Katyayani the daughter of Sage Katya. Sage Katya did tapasya to Maa Durga. She was impressed by his prayer and gave him his wish of Her being born as his daughter.
