Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple

Experience the culture of Madurai with this private tour of its ancient temples. Spend approximately 45 minutes visiting each of the Dravidian temples built by the Pandyan and Madurai Nayak kings, earning the city its nickname Koil Maanagar, which means Temple City. Discover why Madurai, also called the City of Junctions or Koodal Nagaram, is one of India's most outstanding Hindu pilgrimage centers. This temple has very beautiful architecture that might blow your mind. You may visit this place as an devotee, or an architecture lover. The temple has magnificent pillars, got to know that they are a thousand, with intricate design and storytelling in them. Do visit this temple in evening if possible, it is lightened with lamps, Diyas. The temple is magnificent, huge and always crowded. No matter what time you chose, there will be crowd. The temple itself is massive, once you are done with the darshan, the crowd is no where to be seen, it just disappears. The darshan may take (depending on the magnitude of crowd around 2-4 hours), but there is system of paid darshan available as well. In case you are going with kids (as we were), it is recommended to go with it. Paid darshan will allow you to have darshan in less than 1 hours (sometimes 30 minutes or less). Once out of the temple, the campus is huge, it will take further 1-2 hours to completely visit the temple. We visited the temple on May 21st ,this was the start unaware of this we unexpectedly met with huge crowds also owin...

Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal (Madurai)

The palace was undergoing renovation during our visit with some areas closed. The palace itself feels relatively empty though some parts are undeniably beautifully decorated. Inside the palace, there is also a museum but without interpretative panels to help us decipher the significance of the exhibited items. The place: Wonderful historic monument. One of the key landmarks in the city. Easy to access from centre of city Very affordable entry fee. Great photo opportunity in a beautiful backdrop. Light and sound show: This in the evening and has a separate entry ticket. The show is very poor. .. super boring and a mess. Most people end up walking out half way thru. Don't waste your evening on this. Nobody warned us... now you don't have an excuse :) Can be skipped. Architectural beauty and place of historical significance. There is nothing to do inside you can just complete walk of entire premise in 10 mins and be done. 10rs per person entry ticket is charged. And the ticket issuing guy will ask you take 30 rs ticket for atleast 1 mobile No one checks mobile you can just enter directly Found place to be decently cleaned. The govt needs to pay more attention to this place You can skip this place if you don't have much time in Madurai. You can click some good pictures though This palace has a lot going for it but unfortunately needs a vivid imagination to figure out what it was like in it's time. The maintenance is poor, with pigeon droppings even on the pillars that make this...
