Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple (Ujjain)

This is one of the best managed Jyothir linga temple in my opinion. Powerful energy. Few tips : 1. Pay ₹750 and buy Garva Griha darshan. Slot opens on previous day at 4 pm. Only 1030 tickets sold per day. First cum first serve, you can't choose the timing. This is 1000 times better than doing Shighra Darshan[20 feet away] by paying ₹250 or regular darshan [40 feet away]. 2. For the special darshan entry is from Mansarovar gate ( or gate 4), behind where we can deposit the phone. 3. Don't take flower/ sweets basket as nothing is allowed to be taken inside garva griha. Only few pieces of flowers or bilwa leaves you can carry. 4. After darshan don't forget to check out Surya mukhi Hanuman ji near the water tank, and other 4 shiva linga indide the temple premises. 5. Ignore the local vendors, who says flower basket is for ₹5 and then won't give you flowers unless you buy sweets o ₹50 - ₹150 from them. 6. Inside garbhagriha you can only wear dhoti. No shirts allowed, a mens angavastra would be ideal. Women of all ages need to wear sprees. 7. My darshan was done in 45 mins, with jalabhishekam. It was fantastic. 8. Buy the laddu prasad inside or adjacent to the temple gates. Cost ₹360 per kilo. Minimum is ₹40 packet for 200 gm. 9. Must do atleast once in a lifetime. Carry umbrella and socks for summer as the ground becomes extremely hot to walk. Check out the larger promenade inside with beautiful lighting and decorations..they are cleaning the lake and water is diverted to it fr...

Mahakal Lok corridor inauguration : What's the significance of Mahakaleshwar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inaugurating the first phase of the ‘Mahakal Lok’ corridor in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain today. The Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain is believed to be built in the 6th century AD by Kumarasena. It was redeveloped over the centuries, once in the 12th century AD under Udayaditya and Naravarman, and later by the Maratha commander Ranoji Shinde under Peshwa Bajirao-I, who renovated the temple in the 18th century AD. The Mahakal Path spreads around the ancient Rudrasagar Lake, which finds a mention in Skanda Purana. The lake was becoming a dumping site for sewer effluents and was choking with an overgrowth of water hyacinth. Thanks to the Mahakaleshwar Temple Corridor Development Project, it has now been restored and rejuvenated and brought back from oblivion. According to reports quoting Ashish Pathak, CEO of Ujjain Smart City, “The project takes forward the vision of making Ujjain the central node for promoting religious tourism to connect people with culture and traditions. At the same time, it aims to create livelihood opportunities and contribute to the city’s economy. The scale and the magnanimity of the project is an achievement for Smart City Mission and will inspire many religious cities to scale up and learn from this experience.” The form of Shiva in Ujjain is that of Mahakal — the Lord of Time and Death. Kaal has two meanings in Sanskrit — ‘time’ and ‘death’. The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is among the most eminent of the 12 Jyotirlingas in...
