About Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (Agriculture University), Rahuri The Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV), Rahuri is the premier Agricultural University in Maharashtra that renders services to the farmers through Education, Research and Extension Education. In pursuance of the Maharashtra Agricultural University (Krishi Vidyapeeth) Act 1967, initially, the Maharashtra Agricultural University (Krishi Vidyapeeth) was established for the entire Maharashtra State and started functioning in March, 1968 with its office at Mumbai. The office was shifted to College of Agriculture, Pune in 1969. Later on in 1972, four agricultural universities were established in Maharashtra. Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri is one of them established in 1969 for the western Maharashtra having jurisdiction spread over 10 districts viz. Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Dhule, Nashik, Ahmednagar,Pune, Solapur, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur. The University is named after the great social reformer "Mahatma Jyotiba Phule".

Nashik: The central government is focused on providing quality medical education for producing better doctors and hence has doubled the intake capacity of medicos in the last nine years, Union minister of state for health and family welfare Bharati Pawar said. Pawar was addressing students at the bhoomipujan of the Maharashtra Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research being constructed by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik. The foundation was laid by Dr Ashwini Joshi, secretary, department of medical education and research, in the presence of MUHS vice-hancellor Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar (retd), National Medical Commission president Dr Aruna Vanikar, director, directorate of medical education and research Dr “Prime minister “We want people to come to India as the cost of treatment is very low so – Heal in India. Nashik: Lt Gen Dr The Nashik-based MPGIMER would be the first medical college that would be managed by the varsity. Initially, the PG course would function from the Nashik Civil Hospital, and later shift to the new premises that would come up near the MUHS premises. The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has provided land for the MPGIMER to establish its own infrastructure in due course of time. “A total of 59 postgraduate students would be admitted in the MPGIMER in seven disciplines. We are confident the National Medical Commission will permit us that number of initial intake in our PG college,” added Dr Kanitkar. She added that teams from the apex medical education regulator have already carried out the inspection of four disciplines — surgery, gynaecology, emergency medicine and paediatrics. “The National Medical Commission would shortly undertake inspection for the remaining three disciplines — anaesthesia, orthopaedics and medicine — before it gives the green signal,” said the Vice-Chancellor. Lt. Gen Madhuri Kanitkar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) has assumed the prestigious appointment of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. The Gen Officer was commissioned in AMC on 27 Dec 1982. She is a medical graduate of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune University and Postgraduate in MD (Paediatric) from Indian Naval Hospital Ship (INHS), Asvini. She has had the distinction of being first in Pune University in all the three phases of MBBS and was awarded the President’s Gold Medal & Kalinga Trophy for the best outgoing student of the graduate wing in academics and extra-curricular activities in 1982. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor is a Paediatric Nephrologist who has done her postgraduate in Paediatric from Mumbai in 1990 and Training in Paediatric Nephrology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, followed by Fellowships at NUH Singapore and GOS London.
