Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh AMU City School

The School started in 1889 in an old Building by Maulana Bahadur Ali and his associate, it was initially named as Anjuman-e Islamia Primary School Later on it became Mohammadan Anglo Oriental Collegiate, City Branch in 1919 & then became Muslim University City School. The School then shifted to its present building in 1928. Sahabzada Aftab Ahmad, Maulvi Samiullah Khan, Maulvi Abdul Khalique, Deputy Habibullah Khan, Abdul Majeed Khwaja and Alhaj Obaidur Rehman Khan Sherwani the prominent figures who were close associates of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and contributed a lot to the establishment of the School. Maulana Tufail Ahmad Manglori was the first founder manager of the School. The School has been catering the educational needs of the Aligarh City population particularly belonging to under privilege, middle and lower middle classes of the society. The school from I TO V (PRIMARY SECTION) & VI to XII at present there are approximately 1700 students on School's enrolled. A few days ago, the foundation stone of a new university was laid in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, dedicated to the memory of Raja Mahendra Pratap. The news created quite a buzz as the name of the Raja failed to ring a bell. Pratap may have been only a minor royal but he played a stellar role in India’s freedom struggle, as a revolutionary leader and founder of India’s first Government-in-Exile. His relentless efforts in securing international support against the British presence in India and his attempts to establish a pan-Asian Province have been largely forgotten – until now. Pratap was born on 1st December 1886 into a royal Jat family, which ruled the small principality of Mursan in Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh. He attended the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College later renamed Aligarh Muslim University) and, while still a student, was drawn to Marxism and nationalism, which estranged him from his royal roots. Pratap had his first brush with nationalism in 1906, a year after the Partition of Bengal. It had caused outrage and a wave of nationalism to sweep across the nation. Against the wishes of his father and his in-laws (the royal family of Jind, now in Haryana), Pratap attended the Indian National Congress session in Calcutta in 1906. The university is being established by the Uttar Pradesh government in the memory and honour of Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, the great freedom fighter, educationist and social reformer. It is being set up in a total area of over 92 acres at Lodha village and Musepur Kareem Jarouli village of Aligarh's Kol tehsil. The Yogi Adityanath government's decision to set up the university after the noted Jat figure is being politically seen as part of the ruling BJP's bid to win over the community ahead of the crucial assembly polls in the state early next year.
