Manipur International University (MIU) is an Autonomous State International University situated in the scenic State of Manipur in India. It is a Statutory University established, recognised and accredited by the State Government of Manipur through an Act of the State called as the Manipur International University Act, 2018. It is declared as an “International University of Excellence”, “Institution of State Importance” and “State Research Institute” by the State. MIU is listed and recognised as “State Private University” by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of Education, Government of India under sections 2(f) and 22 of the UGC Act, 1956. It is an aspiring Research oriented University under National Education Policy, 2020. The Manipur Technical University (MTU) is the first technical university of the state established on 23rd April 2016 under “The Manipur Technical University Act, 2016” (Manipur Act No.8 of 2016). It is included in the UGC list of Universities under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 and empowered to award degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956 through its departments. All technical institutions operating in the state will affiliate to MTU in due course of time. The university will be in the sixth academic session during the academic year 2021-2022. The process for accreditation under the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and recognition under All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will be taken up after two batches have passed out from MTU. The university has engaged itself in the process of capacity building, both in terms of infrastructure and human resource development. It has mounted tremendous efforts in developing it into a modern university incorporating all elements from the contemporary scientific and socio-cultural milieu. Manipur University was established on 5 thJune 1980 under the Manipur University Act. 1980 (Manipur Act 8 of 1980), as a teaching-cum-affiliating university at Imphal with territorial jurisdiction over the whole of the state of Manipur and it was converted into a Central University w.e.f. 13/10/2005. The Manipur University Act No 54 of 2005 received the assent of the President on 28/12/2005. At present, the University has 108 affiliated colleges inclusive of 2 medical colleges.
