Lucky! TV Series

“I never planned anything in Formula 1. If I saw an opportunity, I took it, and if it was successful it was because… I was lucky!’ In a recent interview with Tatler magazine, Formula 1 legend Eddie Jordan said of Bernie Ecclestone – “anyone who has had a business, sold it four times, has never brought it back, has never lost control of it, and still owns it, is pretty special. And do you know the most important thing? He never f**king owned it in the first place”. Clever, colourful, controversial, enigmatic, ruthless but hugely loyal, Bernie Ecclestone single-handedly transformed Formula 1 from a collection of enthusiastic amateurs into the hugely successful global franchise it is today. Lucky! is the story of the ultimate underdog – Bernie Ecclestone – and his lifelong quest to turn the sport he loves, Formula 1, from the lethal pastime of rich amateurs into a televised global super-sport, rivalled only by the Olympics and the Football World Cup. It is also the story of a fundamental conflict, increasingly seen in all aspects of life: the balance between a pursuit, in this case sport, and money. But Lucky! is about so much more than just a sport and money – it’s about one man’s true grit and determination to overcome all the odds to create a super brand followed and adored by millions of people worldwide. Created and directed by Manish Pandey, writer of the award-winning ‘Senna’, Lucky! is now in production for airing in the winter of 2022. Combining exclusive, and very p...

In one night, the 19-year-old went from being Karnataka's next big Ranji hope to entering the record books as he hit his way to the highest Twenty20 score by an Indian. That century also meant he would not have to carry out his intention of following his father into the army if he did not make it as a professional cricketer. But his barnstorming start did not immediately translate into an India call-up and Pandey continued to work his way up in the domestic circuit. His growth as an aggressive middle-order batsman and an athletic fielder coincided with Karnataka's rise as undisputed leaders of the domestic arena in a period that saw them complete the double treble. In July 2015, six years after that smash-mouth IPL hundred in Centurion, Pandey made his international debut in Harare. Pandey's breakout international innings, however, came six months later in Sydney. In January 2016, his unbeaten maiden ODI century helped India gun down Australia's 330 with two balls to spare and prevent...

The Manish Pandey was shredded on live TV for this former BCCI chairman of selectors. (Agencies) The frustrations with the Capitals have crept in the minds of not only the fans but also former cricketers. So much so, that during a discussion on the Star Sports Cricket Live show, former BCCI chairman Meadows: Chikka, a word about Manish Pandey. He hasn’t quite been able to… (gets interrupted) Srikkanth: Why are we talking about Manish Pandey? I don’t want to talk about him. The guy shouldn’t even be in the team. Let’s talk about Axar Patel, how he has been in the form of his life and deserves to bat higher. Meadows: Well, Chikka seems to be pretty clear that he doesn’t want to talk about Manish Pandey. Srikkanth: No, I don’t want to talk about him. He shouldn’t be in this team. If I was the chairman of selectors, he wouldn't have played. With the discussion seemingly taking an awkward turn, Sanjay Manjrekar took control of the situation and spoke about Pandey, explaining how the 33-year-old has had more misses than hits. Pandey was the first Indian to score an IPL century way back in 2009, and over the years even earned an India call-up, but was never able to justify his talent. Even in the IPL, Pandey hasn’t been able to stick with one franchise and has played for seven different teams – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors India, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants last year and now Delhi Capitals.
