Data entry

This article is about a person-based process. For other uses, see Data entry is the process of digitizing data by entering it into a computer system for organization and management purposes. It is a Sometimes what is needed is "information about information (that) can be greater than the value of the information itself." :68 This is a higher level of abstraction Procedures [ ] Data entry is often done with a keyboard and at times also using a mouse, Historically, devices lacking any pre-processing capabilities were used. Keypunching [ ] Data entry using Computer keyboards [ ] Computer keyboards and online data-entry provide the ability to give feedback to the Numeric keypads [ ] The addition of Computer mouse [ ] The use of a Touch screens [ ] Spreadsheets [ ] Although most data entered into a computer are stored in a database, a significant amount is stored in a spreadsheet. Format control Data managements [ ] The search for assurance about the accuracy of the data entry process predates computer keyboards and online data entry. Modern techniques go beyond mere range checks, especially when the new data can be evaluated using probability about an event. Assessment [ ] In one study, a medical school tested its second year students and found their data entry skills – needed if they are to do small-scale unfunded research as part of their training – were below what the school considered acceptable, creating potential barriers. Section 4: Bulk Data

Field, Definition, Type, and Default Each of the fields 2 through 9 that are named under Format is briefly described under Definition. The field's type (e.g., Integer, Real, or Character) and allowable range are specified under Type. If the field has a default, then it will be given under Default. If user input is required, then "Required" will be specified. Load variables from file into workspace

S = load( ___) loads data into S, using any of the input argument combinations in previous syntaxes. If filename is a MAT-file, then S is a structure array; if filename is an ASCII file, then S is an m-by- n double-precision array containing data from the file, where m is the number of lines in the file and n is the number of values on each line. load filename is the command form of the syntax. Command form requires fewer special characters. You do not need to type parentheses or enclose the input in single or double quotes. Separate inputs with spaces instead of commas. If any input includes spaces, enclose it in single quotes. For example, to load a file named test.mat, these statements are equivalent: Name Size Bytes Class Attributes datasources 3x1 2700 cell hwycols 1x1 8 double hwydata 51x17 6936 double hwyheaders 1x17 2622 cell hwyidx 51x1 408 double hwyrows 1x1 8 double statelabel 51x1 6188 cell ushwydata 1x17 136 double uslabel 1x1 130 cell Use function syntax to load all variables with names that do not begin with hwy from the file. Name of file, specified as a string scalar or character vector. If you do not specify filename, the load function searches for a file named matlab.mat. If filename has no extension (that is, does not end with a period followed by text), load searches for a file whose name is filename with .mat appended to it. If filename has an extension other than .mat, the load function treats the file as ASCII data. Note ASCII files must contain a r...
