Latest Updates on MCD Property Tax (May 2023) MCD Launches Mobile App For Geo Tagging of Property by MCD Property Tax Payers June 06, 2023: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a mobile application- 'MCD App'- allowing MCD property taxpayers to geotag their property. The map is available for Android users and will be available on the iOS portal after 15 days. Using the Geo tagging process will provide information on the location of individuals' properties for better provisioning of service delivery by MCD. An official stated citizens are requested to complete the geotagging process of their property as soon as possible. Also, this decision is taken to bring more transparency to MCD property tax payments. Under geotagging process, unique latitude and longitude coordinates to property owners are provided. These are provided to a property on GIS Map by selecting location against Unique Identification Code so that properties have their location identified against the unique position. MCD Increases Transfer Fee on Sale of Properties above Rs 25 lakh by 1 percent May 2023: In a key development, the Delhi government has approved the proposal of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to increase the Transfer fee on the sale of a property by 1%. The change will be applicable on property transactions worth more than Rs 25 lakh. With the recent decision, the property prices in Delhi are likely to go up. In a major relief to both residential and non-residential property owners, Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena recently launched a one-time scheme – called ‘Strengthening and Augmentation of Municipal Revenue for Infrastructure Development in Delhi’ (SAMRIDDHI). This will serve as a one-time property tax amnesty scheme for residents of authorised and regularised colonies in Delhi. Details of the scheme, and how to avail of it, are below: – The scheme started from October 26, 2022 and will end on March 31, 2023. – Under this scheme, people will get a chance to settle the principal tax amount of the current and last five year. By doing so, people will get relaxation on all penalties and previous outstanding dues. – Under the scheme, for residential properties, taxpayers are required to pay the principal amount of property tax for the current year and previous five years (i.e. FY 2022-23 + FYs 2017-18 to 2021-22), whereupon 100% interest and penalty on the outstanding tax amount shall be exempted and all the previous dues prior to 2017-18 will be waived off. – For non-residential/commercial properties, taxpayers have to pay principal amount of property tax for the current year and previous six years (i.e FY 2022-23 + FYs 2016-17 to 2021-22).
